Blueblossom – The Presidio

Date: February 15, 2018

Location: The Presidio 37.7989° N, 122.4662° W

Site description: The Presidio is a 1,500 acre park on a former military post. It is right on the coast, by the Golden Gate Bridge. From the start of our trail, we could see views of Marin and Point Reyes. The topography consisted of many shrubs along the coast and some taller trees that may be native or non-native.

Species description: The blueblossom, part of the rhamnaceae family, has lilac colored flowers with bright yellow anthers sticking out. The inflorescence seems to be in a raceme formation. The dark green leaves are alternate with strong venation. They are also ovately shaped and glabrous.

Narrative: We left our classroom on another warm day in San Francisco at around 1PM. We arrived at Immigrant Point Overlook in about 10 minutes after. Being that it was right by the coast, the weather was not as warm as it was on campus, but there was still plenty of sun. Thankfully, the trail was not as tiring as from our previous field trip so I was able to take in the beautiful scenery and take many pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge.
