Blue Dicks – Mt. Burdell

Location: Mount Burdell 38-08’46” N 122-35’29” W

Site description: Mount Burdell is located in the Novato Valley and rises 1,558 feet, overlooking the Bay Area. In this area, there are serpentine soils that give rise to rarer plants as well as fertile grasslands.

Species description: The blue dicks, part of the themidaceae family, has purple/blue flowers with a narrow-cylindrical to short-bell-shape. The inflorescence is dense and umbel-like.

Narrative: Our class left the school around 1PM while it was a bit on the chilly side, but still dry weather. When we got to Mount Burdell, the wind started to really pick up, but Professor Paul told us that it would not rain. However, he jinxed us and it did indeed start to rain in the middle of our trip. Additionally, there was a mad cow that stood in our path, coming back to the car, that tried to attack us.
