Write out and sources speech 2

HI everyone my name is Puja Badola and I will be talking about how bicycles and electricity can easily impact one another. You might be asking yourself “gosh darn Puja, how are you gonna connect these two vastly different topics?” Well Ill tell you!

If you’re anything like me you enjoy going outdoors and spending time with your friends doing recreational activities. No not Mary Jane but fixing a bike chain. Biking is an integral part of San Francisco. You see men, women, and children riding their bikes around town. Bicycles don’t discriminate because of sexual orientation, race or religion, Anyone literally anyone can ride a bike, According to SocketSite in 2013 about 3% of people biked to work. Being a more health and environmentally conscious city i can only imagine how much this percentage has grown.

I have spent over countless hours wasting electricity, do i feel bad about it? yes am i gonna change my ways? most likely not. Much of our life depends on electricity. We use it for the most basic things, like watching tv, using our computer, or even navigating through the streets or our home. But how much electricity does San Francisco use? According to a PG&E spokesman the city of San Francisco consumes about 18,000 megawatt hours of electricity each day. One megawatt hour powers about 750 homes in California. Thats 749 more homes than i have.

A couple months ago I went to the tech museum with my family located in San Jose,  they have a bike that generates electricity. the faster that you pedal the more energy is given to the lightbulb. Because so many people ride their bikes here it would  be easy for them to generate electricity and help preserve the environment. This gave me an idea.

Over the course of these semester i will be building a bicycle that generates electricity. For it i will need a stationary bike, a stand, a drive belt, motor, and a light bulb. I will be also using a virtual reality headset so the tedious task of peddling can seem a little more fun than it already is. Hopefully by the end ill finish it if not then I’m sorry but its not the first time I’ve let someone down.

in the wise words of Jeb Bush

Please clap

Sources:

I got my sources from SocketSite which helped me figure out how many people rode their bikes to work in San Francisco in 2013. I also got another source for a PG&E spokesman who talked about how much electricity on average San Francisco uses. Many of the pictures that were in my slideshow they were all taken by me.

  1. Hello! Wow, you had the most energy out of everybody who presented today. Your exuberance made me want to hear what you had to say. And after your energy grabbed my attention I remained so because of your humor. For example, you messed up and cursed by accident but picked up right where you left off. If you ask me, it made your speech even better. You also made your topic connect back to you, as well as the city of San Francisco, which made it relevant to the audience.

  2. Puja! Your speech was so interesting and informative. I like how you incorporated energy and bikes. I am so excited to see what you will come up with for your VR bike project. SO excited to see!
