Globalization is a path that the most countries are on; different culture and identity impacts each other and they are presenting a beautiful chemistry, as said by Jonathen Friedman “The so called ‘hybridization’ of a globalized world appears in reality to be a large scale combination of ethnicization, fundamentalization, and political fragmentation” (p. 335). The term hybridization can describe this future, where people no long seek for the purity of a single culture, instead they pick up the gold from every identities, so that everything hydride together, and the earth become a whole.

The story is about how got nearly drowned in a pond when I was little. I was only 2 or 3 years old, and I had no idea what was duckweed; I step on it thinking it was a grass lawn, but it’s actually a pond with duckweed all over. After I fell, my dad immediately grabbed my leg, and pull me out from the pond with a single hand. Maybe because I was too young, it didn’t became a trauma or made me afraid of water. However, I loved swimming, I went to learn it, and had some training of it.
What I’m trying to tell from it is that, first of all, avoid bring little kids to dangerous places. For adults, it’s easy to identify duckweed and grass, but not for kid; so parents need to think like kids in order to understand them. And the other thing is that, bad thing is not always bad. I walked out of the trauma and decided to learn swim, now I love water, and I definitely can identify duckweed from grass now. So try to learn from life and from failure.
For my audio essay, here is some ideas. Because I’m talking about my own experiences, I want to write soemthing that’s unique to others. For example, how I got to USA, I did not prepare for coming to USA until 2 month before I depart. My parent talked to me about studying abroad when I was little, and keep on having conversation over it, but I never thought i would really come to America. Then suddenly my parents says you are going to America, I was completely shocked.
And here is another idea, I experienced a lot difficulties during the times here, and in fact I’m still experiencing it. This topic is more personal. It talks about how I got depression during the time I struggle in America. It might be a persuasive essay too, because I would strongly suggest parents don’t send out their children for a long distance and long period of time, when you don’t have the confidence that you can provide the education and love your children need.
And another idea is talk about how I nearly drowned to death when I was little. I was playing a park with my parents on that day, and I barely knew to walk, I saw a “grass lawn”, which is actually a green pond, and I ran to it, I fell into it. My parents was shocked, my dad immediately put his upper body into the water, he found my leg and pulled me up with only one hand. That super power! This is going to be super fun to talk and edit. I feel I can make it really funny.
Intro: a hook, something scary? Something like “you might not see me present in this class if this event didn’t work out rightly”
Part 1 going out with parents start from when we arrived at the park, maybe mimic their voice, and I’ll a baby voice to indicate this happened when I was little.
Part 2 I saw a “grass” looking pond, and I thought the water plant was really pretty, so I ran to it. Then I fall into water.
Part 3 it was dark and cold in the water, I still have fragile memories of the water, suddenly a strong hand grads my leg, and I’m out of the water.
Part 4 skip back to when I fall into water, describing how my parents react to it.
Part 5 I was saved. But still kind of shaky. My mom cried. But I actually didn’t know what happened. Because everything happened so fast.
I pieced all the memories together after my dad told me the whole story. And I still clearly remember how the water looks like, how it feels like and how it tastes like now. And it all explained why I have those fragile memories.
In the first assignment, audio essay, we are expected to record our essay and edit it with music background.
This essay is really different from what we had in other class before; it utilizes media, so it is not that boring. But it also brings me some concerns.
– Will my point be accuratly delivered?
– Can I record a audio that is interesting?
– Can I edit my work the right way?
First one, because it is not a written essay, audience won’t have words in front of them, so I need to have proper process to make everyone follow alone.
Secondly, it is recorded that means your vocal deliverance will effect the quality. Audience will fall asleep if the voice tone is too flat. So I need to talk with my emotions.
Thirdly, it deals with multi media, so I need to learn to use computer and program
I read Jingyun’s response, I found that we have a lot similarities in personal experiences. She talked about her own experiences as a international student in America. I had similar ones too, which was some of my classmates were bullying foreign students. But I had a lot helps from my teachers, I was really suprised when she said she was treated harshly by her teacher. Maybe because my high school was a international friendly school, we even had a sister school in China. I do agree with her life for immigrant student is hard. We must digest a lot more pressure that the other cannot even imagine.
But however I still hold a really positive and hopeful opinion on immigration problem. Because during my high school years I had a lot teachers and some friends who want to help me and want to learn about my culture. My physics teacher learned Chinese because he sees more and more chinese students came to our school. And my art teacher painted about traditional Chinese festival. So I believe the world is getting smaller, as well as the distance between every kind of persons.
Hello, I am Ming Fang. I came from China. I’m a design major student. This is my second year in USF. I like music, food and anime.
I’m looking forward to have a good time in this class. I think the material in this course is up to date, which helps me learn about the modern society. Hope I will survive it.
