Speech 2 write out

Well for those of you who do not remember my name, my name is Tharshana and I am going to start off with a little story. This is a true story just to let you know. Two girls age 10 and 12 and dad went on a bike ride on a Saturday morning. They were biking on the sidewalk on the side of a busy street and a teenager was speeding on the road and lost control of his car and swerved his car and hit them dad and the two daughters. One of the daughters and the dad did not survive but the other daughter did because she was wearing her helmet and was at the end of their line. So obviously I support wearing helmets because they are necessary to make sure bikers are safe while on the road.

(1st point) When we went out to the panhandle the other day, my good friend Henrietta and I counted the number of bikers with and without helmets that came across in maybe a span of 15 to 20 minutes.  In the span of that time we saw 80 bikers wearing helmets and 15 bikers not wearing helmets. I think half of them were in this class.

(Supporting) First of all, we decided we got this big of a number because it was rush hour and a lot of people commute on bikes because it saves money and it is the city who would really want to drive in the city. Second, biking in the city in my opinion is more dangerous than biking in a suburban area because there are more cars, the roads are narrower so that is probably why many people wear their helmets in the city.

45,000 bicyclists were injured in traffic 1n 2010, down 10 per cent from 50,000 in 2014 (52,000 in 2015)

there people were probably not wearing helmets to be honest lol

(2nd point) But also, many people do not wear helmets even though they are in traffic situations.

In cities such as New York, 92 percent of all bicycle deaths occur as a result of crashes with motor vehicles. And that they were not wearing their helmets. In a big city like New York biking is difficult cause it is so packed

(3rd) Why you should wear helmets

Speaker:  The Colville doctor talked about how wearing helmets was useless so we are not going to talk about him cause I like helmets. The pediatric doctor who said that helmets were safer because they gave skulls protection and people need their brains tbh

Conclusion: Bikes Good Helmets good Stay safe

Rhet Week

I thought the speeches that were presented for Rhet week on the day we went were really good. They were very confident and had a lot to say. They were all very passionate about their topics and had really good speech topics. Their topics were really relatable to everyone. The awards that were presented were very exciting because those people did very well on their speeches and it was well deserved. And finally I was really excited that there was food because I did not have to eat at the caf afterwards.

Speech 1 Reflection

Overall, I thought my speech was okay. The experience of researching for the speech was really interesting because I was really interested and passionate about the topic. The presentation portion was a little nerve racking but it was a lot of fun. I think I could of had more facts in my speech and could have been a little more confident in myself. Hopefully that confidence will build with more time and practice. I enjoyed listening to everyones speeches and getting to hear what they had to say. A lot of the speeches were really funny and were entertaining to listen to. I look forward to listening and performing more speeches in this class!

Speech Topics

1) How people in biking outfits have more credibility than others in non-biking outfits. I would like to see how wardrobe as an effect on how people take each other seriously on the road and off the road. If you see someone walk in a biking outfit you might think, he is more credible than a person who comes in just leggings and a sweatshirt. 2) How riding bikes and listening to music affects your mood while riding. Many people ride bikes and listen to music at the same time and I want to see how that affects their mood and how it helps them deal with the areas they are biking around. 3)  How biking affects your mentally and how that affects how far you ride. Riding distance depends on how you are feeling that day. If you are not feel well that day then you might not want to ride far but if you are having a good day you would want to ride farther and have a longer time on your bike.

World’s Fastest Women

The fastest women biker can bike 140 miles an hour. This is so inspiring and uplifting because even at this young age, women should be able to do the same things as men and even do them better. When you are biking that fast you should only be thinking about what is right in front of you, biking fast and nothing else. When you are biking at that speed something happens to you which is called the Von Karman Effect. This affect makes it seems like you are floating and like your legs are air. I have felt this while dancing for long periods of time. It feels like you are flying and there is nothing else around you, just you and your body. It is amazing. But getting to this point takes a lot of dedication and commitment to yourself and your training. If you train hard and be really committed you will reach this point and this article basically shows the hard work and commitment needed to reach a point of bliss when biking and competing.

“What Every Kid Wants”

I have always loved riding my bike. My family and I would use to go on bike rides through people’s farm lands and see all the animals. Biking brought us all together and made my weekends growing up so much fun. My most accomplished memory though, was when I learned to ride a two wheeler by myself. My sister took off the training wheels for me and I learned how to ride the bike all by myself. My worst bike memory was when I was biking fast down my street and fell in front of my house. My helmet must have been bad because it came off when I hit the ground. I felt really sad. I will probably not become and competitive biker but I think Strickland and I  both have the same emotions. When I was in high school I would ride my bike around the neighborhood because it made me feel happy and I felt all the stress of school lifted off me. I feel like this is why Strickland rides his bike as well. It helps him cope with his reality and  it made him so happy to forget his present life and live in a dream.
