Jan 27(Ubiquitous Arguments)

We researched a few examples in class to see whether they make an argument or no, and if so, what the argument could be-

1.A Golden State Warriors cap does not make a literal argument but it does make some statements that can be interpreted as arguments. The cap may make the statement that the person wearing it is a fan and that they believe in their team to do well or that they cheer for that team. While these are not literal arguments I think that these statements are worth noting.

2. Nike air zoom pegasus is the longest continuing running shoe series in Nike’s history. There is nothing special about Pegasus, it is not the best athletic shoes nor the smartest, but it is a shoe that anyone would love to wear everyday, because it’s so comfortable. Pegasus also comes in great value that pretty much anyone can afford.

  1. The “explicit lyrics” label on a rap cover argues that the lyrics are not suited for all audiences and can cause controversy or upset people. The label also argues that children should not be listening to this particular music and that they should stay away. I think that these labels are necessary for the people who are not fully aware of what they are about to listen to, it helps keep them away from what they wouldn’t like.

4.the health warnings on a package of cigarettes- while the USA only uses texts are warnings texts on sin(excise) taxed products like cigarettes which are deemed harmful to the society, some countries opt for visuals on the boxes like a pair of lungs that have gone increasingly darker with tar due to the prolonged use for cigarettes. Stating a type of warning on these boxes is a law almost internationally, and they are used to try and get people to quit smoking. This is bad for business for tobacco companies, but not putting these warnings can lead to a ban on the selling of their products.

  1. A pair of ray ban sunglasses- there is no literal argument for someone wearing a pair of ray ban sunglasses. Sunglasses are very popular and the brand is one of the more famous ones when it comes to eyewear. It is a little pricey, it has a lot of different shades: balck, yellow, pink, purple, and blue. It also comes with different styles, but having a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses will take your appearance to the next level.
