April5-peer response/anti-racist teacher response

I read Isabella’s response. She talks about how the girls prospered through the help of these sessions, something I mentioned in my paragraph as well. She gives credit to Carmen Knyard for creating a space forum where the girls could be their own authentic self. She also includes a personal experience which resonated to the writing. I used a personal experience as well. There is no written evidence provided from the essay, something I did not include myself, and I should have.

In the anti-racist teacher video, the high school teacher from Seattle, Taryn Coe, tries to create a safe space for her students in her classroom where her students felt valued, as she believes that their ideas are just as important as hers. This helps me understand better what Knyard was trying to don with her groups. She also talks about how white kids in majority white schools and neighborhoods and little to no contact with people of color, which can lead to them having a complete misunderstanding of systemic racism.

She includes a good point that when teachers and people try to make people of color the focus of their attention in discussions as to what the world is doing wrong, it often leads to more harm than good. She states that white people should educate themselves to how white people benefit from systemic racism.
