Im not sure exactly what I want my speech to be about but some Ideas I have is updating our outdated school system in California, having a stricter lockdown like Australia had to improve the cases of corona, and should homeless people be criminalized for life substaning activities such as sleeping, begging, eating or camping in public places.

One persuasive speech that I found was effective in terms of volume, eye contact, tone etc, was Greta Thungbergs speech regarding climate change, given at the United Nations head quarters in 2019. I think the reason her speech was able to go viral was because of the effectiveness of her delivery. She was able to clearly show emotion regarding her anger at the world leaders, accusing them of ignoring the science Behind the climate crisis. Her tone was serious and stern using powerful words such as how dare you repeatedly while making sure to keep eye contact while delivering. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMrtLsQbaok

I was in a group with daisy and Valentina. Compared to Daisys post we both discussed the example of the school teacher shamming Georgy in the beginning. We both went into how powerful the author explained his experiences and used different techniques to explain his story. We also talked about how shameful Georgy felt and described the pitty his classmates felt for that mad it worse for him.

Something I believe that has positively effected the future of our country and people was the legalization of gay marriage. I believe this positively affected many people who were previously denied basic human rights. By showing next generation that’s its ok to be who you are and leading with acceptance and love is a great role model to show the next generations and leads to more acceptance. I think when this passed it was able to give so many people hope and acceptance that they were denied in the past. I believe this act is a great example because it can positively influence future generations and states to lead with love rather than division.

  1.     Excerpt from page 23 of an article in 2011 by William Ellis entitled “Culture in Transition.”

World problems such as poverty, pollution, war, and hunger are inherent in the current system of world order based on nation-states and economic competition. They can be solved if people know and understand one another on a global, grass-roots basis.  By developing people-to-people linkages irrespective of national borders, we can start to ameliorate global tensions and inequities.

Assertive individuals tend to feel more in control of their lives, derive more satisfactions from their relationships and achieve their goals more often. They also will obtain more respect from, and inspire confidence in, those with whom they interact since they tend to be viewed as strong characters who will not be easily swayed.

I read Henrys blog and noticed we had a lot of similarities and differences. Some stuff I found significant was when Henry talks about knowing the purpose/message of your presentation and knowing your audience as well. Henry also talks about the importance of delivering the presentation which I also talk about and different tips to deliver it well such as watching the speed and tone of your speech.  We both empathized on knowing who your target audience is and being able to deliver it right based on your audience. Lastly we both stated how to correctly practice giving your presentation such as using a webcam and watching yourself over and presenting with good body language and gestures.

I was in a group with Allin and lilah, after reading each others discussion I found we have many similarities and differences.  Me and Allin both mention the Simpsons example listed in the textbook but stated different thing about the example. I said how the Simpsons example showed the power of visual images rather than just hearing the description and Allin described how using simpler syntax was used to make the argument effective. All also mention began her post with the importance of using ethos pathos and logos can make an effective argument while I stated that having a strong introduction and conclusions is what makes an effective present argument. Lastly while I focused more on having a strong introduction and conclusion lilah stated how she though the delivery and silence was most important in creating a present argument.

October 28

I was in a group with Sabrina and sahara, Me and Sabrina began with introducing the story of Stealing The Buddhas Dinner and summarized the main points of it. We both stated how hard it was for multi ethnicity and race children to grow up in an environment feeling as if they don’t belong to their own community. We discussed how frustrating it can feel trying to keep up with and embrace each aspect of  your culture. We also were able to relate to the story and draw from personal experiences on this topic. We than later stated how this issue isn’t as talked about as it should be and how we need to bring more awareness to this issue because a-lot of people are going through this alone.

October 19

During this breakout room I worked with ailin and Amani. We all included the importance of visual rhetorics and how to best use them. We all started off with what visual rhetorics is and how to use them. We stated that visual images often catch the audiences eye and colors are really important when using pathos because we biologically have a reaction to them. Amani used more real life example while me and alin used examples from the textbook. Alin talked about how she would interpret an image and me and Amani talked about interpreting an image from the audiences persecutive.

When viewing Kendall Jenners Instagram I think her character isn’t fully true and shown through her instagram. Kendall Jenner mainly posts modeling/ swimsuits pictures of herself either on vacation or always in full glam. When I watch the shows and hear interviews about her she says she doesn’t enjoy getting all dressed up and in full glam like her instagram portrays. Using the information based off of my readings in chapter 3 of “Everything’s An Argument” ethos is credibility to your argument and when I see Kendall Jenners instagram I don’t think Its a credible source of portraying who she rly is. When Kendall portrays herself on instagram but talks about a different side that contradicts herself on social media I think it doesn’t create a trustworthiness relationship with the audience.

Freewriting essay 2

When writing a rhetorical analysis I think that rather than writing about “hard facts” and statistics it is more important to use logic or reasoning and to gain credibility with the audience. I believe when the writer has some personal experience on their topic it gives them more credibility and connects with the audience more rather than someone who has little to no knowledge on the topic. For example if I were to do an argument on why online school is bad for your mental health I think I would be able to connect with the audience. Second I think that using logos and pathos is very important when arguing your topic. If you are able to start out with a strong emotional appeal that really connects to the audience it is able to grab their attention making them more interested in what you have to say. The jeep super bowl commercial demonstrated this very well it became the most  viewed super bowl commercial in a matter of minutes because of their strong emotional appeal. They were able to connect to the audience by putting pictures and a narrator talking in the background.

Essay 2 outline

In the beginning of my essay I plan to introduce my prompt one something that I have personal experience in not sure what it is yet but for an example I will put mental health

I will start off with an intro of my experience on how I have witnessed peoples mental health decrease especially when it came to the switch of online school, I will then use different writing styles such as ethos pathos or logos to further argue my topic. Then I will use facts and evidence to support my argument
