Part of the center’s research and leadership initiative, the fellows program will provide outstanding students with the opportunity to engage with Asia and to provide them with the skills they will need to succeed in today’s increasingly globalized world.
- Application Deadline Extended: Monday, September 27, 2021
- Please Note: Fellow workshops will take place every other Tuesday, 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. throughout the year.
Undergraduate Fellows Program:
Through the Center’s Asia Bridge Fellow Program, we’re training undergraduates in the essentials of researching issues vital for our understanding of the Asia Pacific both historically and today. Fellows will emerge from the year-long program with skills that will help them succeed in their future careers–skills like research, data analysis, essay and report writing, and public speaking. They will also become part of a community of students and scholars that share a passion for Asia.
The center is seeking applications from current USF undergraduates who are interested in conducting research about one of the center’s five main areas of concentration (China, Japan, Korea, India or the Philippines), writing a research paper, and gaining experience presenting in academic settings. From this pool of applicants, the center will select up to eight fellows.
This year’s fellowship will be coordinated by Dr. Cynthia Schultes.
Benefits for Fellows:
- Research workshops on conducting research, writing, and public speaking
- Mentoring from academics in the field of Asia Pacific Studies through office hours and workshops
- Produce a 12-15 page paper to use as a writing sample for future employment and graduate school applications
- Community building events to interact with students and scholars with similar interests
- Event management experience from planning a Center event in the spring semester
- $500 award for those who complete all of the requirements for the program
