October 30: Video Presentation Analysis

Involving Christopher Grant, Lou, Ben

What makes this video so effective:

  • The main highlight is the editing and the tone of the presenter.
  • The presenter used a very straight forward tone to show an unbiased opinion with the reviewed product.
  • The editing had excellent transitions and great camera focus.
  • The reviewer has a great speech toward the audience instead of the product, using general terms for a better understanding.
  • The reviewers gestures were good in relation to describing the product and its use.
  • The video had a great use of b-roll instead of him simply talking in front of a camera.

October 28: Multimodal Arguments

Similarity and Differences with Anthony Wang’s discussion:

  • A huge similarity between our discussions is that we both believe in how multi modal arguments allow composer’s to express their statement fully.
  • Another similarity is on how Katie failed to fully utilize the different layers of video media elements to persuade her argument visually.
  • A final similarity is on the first example on Candice learning about her insufficiency of language and how she can fully compose video essay’s.

These multi modal arguments allow you to specifically talk to the listener, while a traditional essay is simply stating various things that leave the reader with no voice to hear.

Sample questions to ask in interview:

  • What is the major benefit of Accounting that makes the field impossible to forget in a business?
  • What aspect of accounting makes the field unique in it’s own way apart from other field in business?
  • Why would a student want to choose an accounting major over any other major?
  • How would you describe Accounting from your own experience with it?
  • What is your definition of Accounting?
    • What would a student with accounting degree look forward to a year after graduation?

October 25: VerbTenseExercise

Activity 1:
For a long time, my stepson, Jonathan, was unhappy to have me apart of his family, for
he resented that he didn’t have both biological parents at home. I tried to get to know him
better, but he has complained that I am invading his privacy. As a newcomer, I understood that
our relationship would require effort from both of us. It was not enough that I was friendly.
Jonathan also had to want for us to be friends, and I was not happy with the two of us being
strangers, but I waited for him to feel more comfortable around me.
Activity 2:
Anne Marie collects antique bottles and loves to turn them into works of art. She will buy
bottles if she likes them, but she prefers to find them in the ground. She will find bottles
everywhere, but she pickes them selectively. However, she has the best luck at
construction sites on old farmland, where she spends most of her time. Often, bottles
appeared on the surface after a good rain, but they disappear very soon. She uses
special tools for excavating bottles, including a set of brushes. She does not want to break
the bottles as she removes them from the ground. After finding a new bottle, Anne Marie
will add it to her display case and hang it on the wall as an artistic piece (Mangelsdorf,
2013, p. 411).

October 11: Rhetorical Analysis of profile

I did Robert Downey Jr.’s twitter account. RDJ is obviously known for the huge role of playing Iron man in the MCU. He is constantly posting about it regardless of his characters demise with the last installment of the MCU. His character seems to portray that of Tony Stark; I think that over the ten years of playing him he has transformed into a real life Tony Stark. He uploads photo’s and video’s and announcements about Iron man and Marvel. He also does stage talking here and there, inspiring the minds of the young. The ethos that I see with RDJ is very correspondent with a fictional character than his own. People truly don’t see him in any other fashion than that of who he has played and more importantly he is Iron man.

October 2: In-class writing

Original Quote:

“A vaincre sans péril, on triomphe sans gloire” – Corneille

To win without risk is a triumph without glory – Corneille

Google Translate:

“To overcome without danger, we triumph without glory”

The overall meaning is kept in this translation, there is a couple words here and there that are changed and make it mean a different perspective. The word win is replaced with overcome, more like an obstacle approach. Then the word risk is changed with danger, like a fearful challenge ahead. In summary these couple of words change the perspective of the quote.
