Introduction

Hello! My name is Elías Gutiérrez and I use he/him pronouns. I am a third year architecture major from the Mission district in San Francisco. My mom was born in El Salvador and my dad is Mexican but was born in the city. Additionally, to say only one interesting or unique thing about the mission and city as a whole would grossly do it injustice so I suppose I can say that it’s a special place filled with culture (along with many other things). A fun fact is that even though I’m from the city, I went to high school in Berkeley and I suppose this is important because Berkeley is a very open-minded and different place than a lot of other cities in both the country and world. I love to read, write, watch/make films and enjoy sports heavily. I am the biggest giants and 49ers fan and spend too much time focusing on them. I consider myself highly creative and personable.

In terms of school, I have written research papers and essays. In my personal time I like to write poetry and screenplays for movies and shows. As a kid, I used to be very into comics and graphic novels and explored that medium.

I absolutely love writing, it’s one of my favorite things to do as it helps me express myself and understand my thoughts. The only thing I tend to not like about writing isn’t with writing itself but with restrictions or structured writing in the sense that you have to do an essay or write a certain way. That is really a long-winded way of saying I like creative writing.

Many of my of my friends, up to this point, have made fun of me for being a third year in a class that freshmen usually take. And as funny as it is to others, and as “embarrassing” as it may be to me, I feel that I can offer a lot to my classmates by way of experience and kindness.
