October 1: Reading Discussion

Reading Discussion

My partner was Daniela. She gave a clear and concise response that was littered with supporting quotes and analysis. She explained the plot of “Mother Tongue” more effectively than I did. I tended to give bits and pieces of the plot after giving just a short synopsis of what but was about.

Similarities

  • Neither of us included a reference list
  • Both of us incorporated quotes and analyzation of said quotes in our responses.

Differences

  • She explained the plot in full and efficiently
  • I pointed out the use of all three rhetoric devices whereas Daniela mostly pointed out pathos/ emotional appeal
  • She included more quotes than I did and integrated them more seamlessly

I appreciated Daniela’s unique perspective of filling in the reader on the plot of the piece she was writing about. After reading Hauer’s rhetoric analysis, I sort of figured that this wasn’t necessary. It was a little foreign to not give more context of the subject I was writing about. Additionally, every point Daniela made was supported with quotes which was helpful as a reader and made her work more credible/convincing. In the future, and also when I do my rhetoric analysis essay, I would like to add more quotes and analysis to better support my arguments.
