October 4: Reading Response

My partners were Jack and Damilola

Similarities with Jack

  • Mentioned that the information must be accurate for scholarly writing
  • The information must be read carefully as there is a lot of bias even when it comes to numbers/statistics and their representation
  • we both used the Wall Street journal example

Differences with Jack

  • He used the “They Are Happier and Having Better Lives Than I Am” example
  • I focused on the Jeff Sessions DACA example to convey my points

Similarities with Damilola

  • Statistics are integral part of creating a strong, logic-based argument
  • These figures and facts need to be accurate
  • despite using different examples, we both explained that information must come from credible sources and stressed the idea of questioning stats and figures as they can be manipulated to sway one’s argument

Differences with Damilola

  • he used the CNN example

  1. The reality show follows the lives of Bruce and Kris Jenner’s combined family, with most of the episodes focusing on the three oldest daughters, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé Kardashian.
  2. In addition to being famous for breaking the world record and winning a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics; Bruce Jenner’s sons from a previous marriage, Brandon and Brody, have also appeared on their own reality shows.
  3. Because the Kardashians’ father, the late attorney Robert Kardashian, was famous for representing O. J. Simpson, his daughters gained recognition as American socialites.
  4. Kim came into the national spotlight in 2007 after a sex-tape scandal and resulting Playboy appearance, which resulted in the Kardashian family’s fame growing to where they now have a successful reality tv show.
  5. The show depicts the daily routine of the Kardashians. There are spin- off shows featuring Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé’s attempts to build their line of fashion boutiques.
  6. The Kardashians’ behavior at first seemed outrageous. They are a loving family.
  7. The Kardashians squabble like typical siblings, and Kris, the mother, has to frequently hold the family together.
  8. An estimated 10.5 million viewers witnessed Kim’s wedding, costing $ 10 million, to pro basketball player Kris Humphries in 2011. Unfortunately, the marriage lasted only 72 days.
