Feb 15- Literacy Narratives

The audio literacy narrative I listened too first was by, Andrea Haugtvedt. It was about a girl who kept in contact with a guy from summer camp. She expresses how they communicated only through email. Continuously talking through email was the only form to stay connected. Haugtvedt overall emphasizes how important and deep words can be. Words can have a huge effect on one, they are powerful, they add imagery, character, and emotion. I will focus on my language and how to portray my words to allow the listener to hear my emotion and meaning. I will emphasize the power behind my metaphors and verb-age.

The second literacy narrative that I read was “Literacy Autobiography” by Jessica Murphy. Jessica Murphy reflects on the obstacles she had focusing on reading as a child with ADHD. She expresses how she’s always had trouble staying still, so teachers were constantly sending her out of the class. She then expresses how a one on one summer reading lesson in which she learned how to relax her hyperactivity. It was then that Murphy realized how much she loved learning. This passage was very deep as it was extremely personal, it allowed me to connect with the writer and put myself in her shoes. I took that everyone learns differently and at different paces therefore if we had more resources then more people would love education.
