At our yearly Student Assistant Orientation held this past Sunday, August 26th, one of the “ice breaker” activities for the Reference Student Assistants was to discuss a book read over the summer. Here’s a list of the books we read and some of our thoughts on them.
1. Love in the Time of Cholera – Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Ariana: “This novel definitely creates a whirlwind of emotions as you navigate the complexities of this love story.”
2. The Omnivore’s Dilemma – Michael Pollan
Alana C: “I love reading books about food and health. This is definitely a great book!”
3. What We Lose – Zinzi Clemmons
Alana B: “This book deals with loss and grieving over a close family member. Each chapter is a short story, and the book does not follow a linear trajectory.”
4. The Alchemist – Paulo Coehlo
Juliana: “I learned a lot from all the lessons that unfold throughout the journey.”
5. Half a Yellow Sun – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Ashlie: “I love Chimamanda as a writer and public speaker.”
6. Anne of Green Gables Series – Lucy Maude Montgomery
Tatum: “I dove back in to classic feminist literature. I would recommend this series.”
7. The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
Molly: “This was such a great book!” *Everyone chimed in to agree*
