Welcome to Fall Semester, Dons! As the academic year begins, we are excited to virtually welcome you to Gleeson Library. Our staff have been working hard to support learning and teaching at USF, including showing vast creativity, care, and responsiveness to deliver services during shelter-in-place. We’ve made a number of changes to our services since March, so have outlined some of our recent service updates below:

We’re here to help!
In accordance with recommendations of the San Francisco Department of Public Health, physical access to Gleeson Library is limited to a small number of pre-approved staff and faculty only. Please review the staff protocol for more information, including the Dons Health Check. If the public health situation improves to an extent which allows us to increase physical building access, we will joyfully let the university community know. In the meantime, know that we miss helping you in person, and that Gleeson Library is online!
Hours of Operation
This semester, the majority of our library services are online, with hours that mirror our regular on-campus schedule. For current hours for our Reference, Special Collections and University Archives, and Ask a Librarian services, please see our schedule. While the Gleeson Library building is closed to the general USF community, we encourage the USF community to check out our full suite of online library resources.
Our Access Services team has been working around the clock to ensure we can continue to safely check out physical books and media to the campus community, as well as expand access to electronic resources. Checkout-periods for items owned by Gleeson or Zief Library have been extended to February 1, 2021. Many interlibrary loan and LINK+ items have also been extended. Home Delivery & Document Delivery
We are proud to offer Home Delivery – free shipment of physical materials to your home (including a free return shipping label); and Document Delivery – sending you electronic or digitized copies of our materials. We are also continuing electronic Interlibrary Loan services – including continuing to cover up to $15/request for students and $35/request for faculty while we shelter-in-place.
Beginning August 24th, 2020, we will be launching Interlibrary Loan requests for physical materials, as well as Home Delivery options for Fromm Institute students. We also hope to make Home Delivery options for international students available soon. At this time, LINK+ requests are discontinued. Course Reserves for Students
Looking to save money on textbooks? Be sure to check your class syllabus, Canvas course, and our Course Reserves page or Ignacio to see if your instructor has uploaded your class readings. In the interest of safety, we are only offering electronic course reserves this semester – and we are adding more each day.
Course Reserves for Faculty
This semester, we are continuing to make electronic materials available as Course Reserves, including accommodating the purchasing of electronic materials, and digitizing of physical materials in our current collections, to the extent that licensing and staffing restrictions allow. Physical Course Reserves will not be available this semester.
- To request Course Reserves, please fill out this form, which includes options for electronic materials, and currently-owned physical materials to be scanned. All scanning requests must be accompanied by a ALA Fair Use Checklist – please email completed checklists to email@example.com.
- To have us scan your personal copy of a textbook for Course Reserves, complete this form and the ALA Fair Use Checklist. Please send your book and printed copies of both forms to us – you can either deposit it in our book-drop, or mail it to the address below. Once we have received your package, your book will be quarantined for five days to ensure we can safely process your request.
