The Gleeson Zine Collective has a new initiative to incorporate zine making into the remote student experience by offering zine kits to be mailed out. The kits can be requested for USF community members interested in making zines on their own, or they can be mailed out ahead of time for Gleeson zine workshops and classes. The anticipated launch of the zine kits is February 15, 2021.
A self-addressed stamped envelope and consent form will be included in each kit so that zines can be mailed back and included in the Gleeson Zine Library. Inside the zine kits: the Gleeson Zine Collective zine; craft supplies for making zines; directions on making zines; self-addressed stamped envelope; and outreach materials, such as buttons.
The zine kits provide Gleeson Library with the opportunity to advance our mission to actively engage the USF community by providing the resources and services to develop the whole person. These kits have the potential to create new connections with our students amid the challenges of remote learning and engagement. They highlight the Library’s values of access, community, innovation, and creativity, as well as continue our role as a central partner in student success. Additionally, the Gleeson Zine Library shares the University’s commitment to social justice movements and local community activism by collecting and loaning print zines that center BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ narratives, and their own voices.
To request a zine kit, fill out the request form and a kit will be mailed to you within 3 to 5 business days of our receipt of the request. Interested in making a zine? The Gleeson Zine Collective is hosting ColleAge and Cry, a virtual event taking place on March 26, 2021, from 11:45pm to 2pm. Join us!
