Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month, we’re highlighting a some of our relevant e-resources.
We also want to join in on getting the word out about the terrific exhibition now up and running through Nov. 12 in Thacher Gallery. The extensive exhibition of work by San Francisco activist and artist Yolanda M. López (1942-2021) is chock full of rediscovered drawings, collages, paintings, photographs, prints, and process pieces from over six decades, spanning the 1960s to the 2010s.
For our part, we’re proud to call attention to a few relevant subject sets of Gleeson databases. Use the drop-down menu “All Subjects” to scroll through all the various subject areas we have databases grouped into.
Although we’re highlighting just one database per subject area you’ll find a broad host of individual databases under each of these areas. Also, you may notice that several databases appear under all three subject areas due to overlapping coverage.
Chicana/o Studies
This wide-ranging database includes over 67,000 records from more than 2,400 journals and other resources including newspapers, books and book chapters. You’ll find an array of articles relating to diverse aspects of Chicano culture from politics to art, education and social issues. As there is not an abundance of full text directly available in Chicano Database you will want to familiarize yourself with our Full Text Finder.
Latina/o Studies
Oxford Encyclopedia of Latinos and Latinas in Contemporary Politics, Law, and Social Movements
Provides vast scholarly consideration of the unique historical and contemporary experiences of Latinos and Latinas in the United States in acknowledgment of both their longstanding and ongoing significant contributions to society’s cultural development.
Latin American Studies
Easily searchable full text of many key historical newspapers published in Latin America and the Caribbean between 1805 and 1922. Countries of publication include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, and elsewhere.
Additional Databases
Try, for instance, searching for “Latin American art”, “Latinx”, and “Chicano” or “Chicano Arts”.
Includes 1,500 small press publications from The Chicano Press Association.
