Do you ever wonder what campus life was like on Lone Mountain in 1948? Do you wish you could have seen Bill Russell in action in 1956? Are you interested in the history of USF and the students and faculty who roamed the Hilltop in bygone days?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then don’t miss these four newly available digital collections featuring digitized film, documents, and newsletters from the University Archives collection.
University Archives 16mm Film Collection
This collection has three digitized film clips showing students on campus in 1976, footage of the 1956 NCAA final basketball game between USF and Iowa, and scenes of student life at the San Francisco College for Women in 1948.
San Francisco College for Women Yearbooks Collection
The 1948 El Faro yearbook is our first (but not our last!) addition to this collection. Keen observers will notice that the Alice in Wonderland snapshots in this yearbook are related to one of the digitized film clips in the University Archives 16mm Film Collection listed above.
Commencement Programs Collection
Doing research on USF alumni? Then this is the collection for you. Much like the already digitized USF Yearbook & USF General Catalog, these USF commencement programs document an important annual event in USF’s history and can provide insight into students and scholarship of the past.
USF Monday Bulletin Collection
Want to know more about events on campus, academic programs, faculty research, and administration? Then check out the USF Monday Bulletin, a campus newsletter issued by the President’s Office from 1970-2001. Currently this digital collection contains Bulletins from 1970-1976, where you’ll find topics such as affirmative action, collective bargaining, budget, & more. In these issues, you can read about the first OPE contract in 1974, the 1975 Ethnic Studies sit-in in the President’s office, or learn more about USF Toho-Gakuen, the 1970s partnership between the Tokyo Broadcasting System and USF’s School of Management.
Our staff add new images and digitized documents to digital collections each month, so check back regularly to see these collections grow. For more information about any of these collections, email Special Collections and University Archives.
