Welcome back! With fall semester right around the corner, we wanted to provide a refresher on our Course Reserves library service. Course Reserves are fair use, which makes course materials as accessible and inclusive as possible for students. With textbook costs on the rise, we encourage all faculty to utilize this library service to benefit your students.
This infographic (followed by an accessible text version of the graphic) highlights key points about our Course Reserves.

Faculty can provide students with access to course materials.
1. Two ways to submit a course reserves request
- Online form – Head to the “Services” tab on our homepage, select “Course Reserves” in the drop-down menu, then select “Reserves Request Form” on the right.
- In person – come to the Circulation Desk and ask for a Course Reserves form. Once filled out, turn it in along with any personal copies you are using for Course Reserves.
2. What type of materials can I put on reserve? Do they have to be accessible?
- You can submit various materials for your reserve – textbooks, PDFs, DVDs, and/or a link to a streaming video.
- Since the materials are being used for a USF course, all materials need to be accessible. If there are any issues or concerns, please contact the Course Reserves Coordinator.
3. How do I submit different types of materials for reserve?
- Textbook/DVD – If it’s a Gleeson Library item, write down the call number and we will page the item for you. If it’s a personal copy, just bring it to the Circulation Desk.
- PDF – You can attach it to your submission, email it to gleesonreserves@usfca.edu, or bring a hard copy into the library. The library offers scanning as an option on a first come first serve basis, processing varies.
4. How do students check out Course Reserves? For how long?
- Students must have their USF ID card to check out any Course Reserve materials. Students can borrow up to two Course Reserves at a time.
- There are five different loan periods: Library Use Only (LUO), 2hr, 3hr, 24hr, and 1 week.Students must have their USF ID card to check out any Course Reserve materials. Students can borrow up to two Course Reserves at a time.
