1. Open Education Resources and Private Institutions (SCELC webinar)

The webinar will feature two private institutions, Gettysburg College and the University of San Diego, and their OER experiences with a faculty, librarian, and student team. The librarian faculty team from Gettysburg College will be Janelle Wertzberger, Assistant Dean and Director of Scholarly Communications, and Professor Standee, Sociology. Representing USD will be Alejandra Nann, Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian, and Professor Drew Talley, Environmental and Ocean Sciences.

2. CTE and Gleeson Library: Addressing the Cost of Textbooks: USF Grant Recipients Talk about the Open Education Resources (OER) Pilot Program

Grant recipients Jonathan Hunt, Julie Sullivan, and Giacomo Fiore will discuss their experience with the OER pilot program, including what worked, what didn’t, and how their teaching has been impacted by alleviating the cost of textbooks for students.

3. CRASE and Gleeson Library: Controversies in Academic Publishing

Featuring Anneliese Taylor, Head of Scholarly Communication at the University of California, San Francisco, and Richard Schneider, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF and member of the UC System-wide Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC) of the Academic Senate, this event will cover the cancellation between the University of California and Elsevier, open access efforts, and how the USF faculty’s open access policy operates in this context.

4. Where Oh Where is the Public Domain? Webinar with Peter Hirtle

Peter Hirtle, the author of the frequently cited resource, “Copyright Term and the Public Domain in the United States,” will provide an overview of the public domain: what it is, how works rise into it, what is copyright renewal, and some of the common mistakes he has made when trying to determine the public domain status of a work.
