To familiarize the USF community with library staff, we interviewed one of our awesome Access Services staff members, Katlyn Murphy.
Get to know this friendly face and don’t forget to say hi!
What is your role here at Gleeson?
Library Assistant IV: I work evenings and weekends part time at the Access Services/ Circulation desk.
What inspired you to work at a library?
I love love love books. I’ve always loved them and would always read during school.
After college I was jumping between different internships and jobs, but nothing really was enjoyable. I rethought where I wanted to be and the first thing that came to mind was to work in a place so familiar to me. At first I only wanted to try it out to see if I liked it. But two years later I definitely found what I was looking for.
You’re a San Francisco local! Can you tell us about some hidden gems in SF that you can recommend?
Go to Sutro Baths! That area is always so pretty, but I definitely recommend the labyrinth there. It’s also such close access to the beach and the Great Highway. Also, I recommend riding the J Church train to Mission Dolores. The view is incredible, and it’s always good weather in that part of town.
What are your favorite places to eat in SF?
I don’t eat out too often, but if I do these are some places I usually go for a quick bite:
- El Burrito Express– a staple burrito place on Taraval St. and there’s always a line out the door. I love their veggie burrito because it includes different types of veggies and not just the standard lettuce and salsa.
- Devil’s Teeth– the breakfast sandwich, YUM.
- El Farolito-if you haven’t heard of this place, just go. I don’t even need to explain.
- Tennessee Grill– basic food options but the restaurant has been there for years and you get the food super quick
Thank you Katlyn!
