peer analysis post

I think that as a group we all did fairly well on our presentations. Things that I think separated a few classmates away from others was having something with them. I think that having power points and visuals helped the audience not zone out as much. I also think that it was really cool that malia brought snacks because it really helped engage and interest the class. Also I liked how some people were really enthusiastic about the presentation and showed they really cared by going out and doing extra things to help prove the evidence they presented in the speech. Good job everyone!!!

Self assesment

Overall in my presentation I feel that I did alright. I don’t think that I did as good as I could have. I think that my presentation was fairly short and I know I write more down then I actually said. I think I was so nervous that I just talked way ti fast and skimmed over parts of my presentation. I am however, happy with how I used my sources and was able to connect my speech better then I did last time. I hope next time I can improve by slowing down and making sure that I actually say all of the information that I found.

Discussion on sources presentation 2

For my second presentation i tried to improve on what i didn’t like about my first speech one of those things was that i didn’t use a lot of outside sources. For this presentation i used the same video as last time done by bike radar ad isla rowntree called “teach your kid how to ride a bike” i also dug a little bit more into islam and got more information about her. Then i use the in class reading done by Joseph Zompetti on “using and citing evidence” i found that this article really connected to my presentation and would help the class also have something to connect my presentation to. I am a lot happier with my use of sources for this project then my first one!

Discussion of video rehearsal presentation 2

Looking back on my video rehearsals i found a lot of things that i could improve on. The first thing is is something i am working on is my stance and my placement of my body however in my video rehearsals i decided to sit on my bed. This isn’t helpful because i will not be sitting down as i give my presentation. The videos also helped me see that i need to practice more with this speech because i used more specific ideas and i sighted people which is a lot harder to memorize.  In the first video i did something similar to the first project where basically  just reading my presentation. In the second a third ones i tried to not do this as much but watching the video i did it a lot because it was hard for me to remember the peoples names. Overall these video rehearsals just taught me that i really need to practice my speech more before i give it to the class.

write out for project 2

Hi my name is jordan and for my presentation i will be talking about the video i worked with last time done by bike radar on how to teach a child to ride a bike. I wanted to continue with this topic because I find it interesting and this time I looked at the evidence that this video provided. In the video they use a couple different types of evidence which are factual demonstrations and an expert testimony.

I believe the first form of evidence presented is an expert testimony. Instead of our speaker quoting someone who they believe to be an expert i think bikeradar let the expert herself create the video. The lady doing the videos name is Isla Rowntree and she is a former bike racer and is now the founder of a kids bike brand called islabikes. This proves that Isla really knows what she is talking about and is almost an expert on the subject. I feel like what she says is a good form of testimony because according to the reading “using and citing evidence” and expert testimony is given by someone who is in the related field of the controversy. So i believe the whole video is a form of an expert testimony.

The next form is what I believe to be the biggest and most prominent piece of evidence was the use of factual demonstrations. In the reading by Joseph Zompetti on evidence he says that “Factual demonstrations are forms of evidences that can actually demonstrate the claim.” During the whole video while the lady is talking about what you should do with your child she is actually demonstrating with a child or having the child do it on his own. This was also really helpful because it was easy to follow what she was saying because they were demonstrating at the same time. It was also very powerful because she was basically showing how what she is saying is true and it does work.

Overall this video has very good use of evidence and helps me and the viewers who are most likely parents to take islas expert advice when teaching kids to learn to ride bikes.

Arrangement outline for presentation 2

I will be continuing to talk about the video done by isla rowntree from bike radar but this time i am emphasizing on the use of evidence.

My audience are my classmates.

The purpose and my goal of this presentation is to show how bikeradar uses evidence in there video “how to teach your kid to ride a bike”

Introduction:

Hi my name is jordan and for my presentation i will be talking about the video i worked with last time done by bike radar on how to teach a child to ride a bike. I wanted to continue with this topic because i find it interesting and this time I looked at the evidence that this video provided.

They use a couple different types of evidence which are factual demonstrations and an expert  testimony.

Factual demonstrations

The biggest form of evidence i found in the video was the use of factual demonstrations. In the reading by Joseph Zompetti on evidence he says that “Factual demonstrations are forms of evidences that can actually demonstrate the claim.” During the whole video while the lady is talking about what you should do with your child she is actually demonstrating with a child or having the child do it on his own.

Expert testimony

The lady doing the videos name is Isla Rowntree and she is a former bike racer and is now the founder of a kids bike brand called islabikes. This proves that Islam really knows what she is talking about and is almost an expert on the subject. I feel like what she says is a good form of testimony because according to the reading “using and citing evidence” and expert testimony is given by someone who is in the related field of the controversy.

Conclusion

Overall this video has very good use of evidence and helps me and the viewers (parents) to take their advice when teaching kids to learn to ride bikes.

Reading response 3 mod 2

Three rhetorical trick bike advocates could learn from uber’s plouffe is by Michael Anderson. This article focuses on the potential impact of different ways of presenting evidence and how no you can use certain ideas to your advantage to help your argument. He talks about how the person speaking on behalf of uber didn’t care that there is public transportation everywhere throughout most urban cities but instead he found a statistic that worked towards his point allowing him to engage the audience. This speaker also used comforting words like hope and change because they are very well liked. Mark talks about how applying this statistic does not need to be 100% true but just to have some truthfulness. It doesn’t need to be exact but if it is true then you might as well use it to help support your argument!

Using and citing evidence to construct and support arguments- reading response post 2

This article is written by Joseph zompetti and i think that it is a very good article to look at to see the different ways in which people use evidence. Joseph starts off by talking about the different types of arguments and the rhetoric strategies of pathos logos, and ethos. Heb says that not one of these is appealing to everyone and often times people need a mix or even a little of all of these styles, especially when dealing with evidence you need to understand the value of the evidence and this is mostly logos or logic. HE then talks about the different types of evidence such as: expert testimony, statistics, experiments and factual demonstration, and fian;;y other forms of testimony. All of these are good forms of testimony that appeal to different people. Experiments and factual demonstrations are good because they actually demonstrate the claim being made which is very powerful. Statistics can be good but they can also be misleading and require more questioning and thought. He also talks about how to cite evidence in your speech. He says that you should always mention the author’s name, qualifications, and date. This is because they allow the reader to trust your information and make you more credible.

Evidence post- reading response 1

For me evidence that is most convincing is expert testimony and pictures. I like expert testimony because I like  hearing evidence from a person because it makes me feel like i can trust what they are saying and it keeps me engaged rather then looking at random numbers that i don’t understand.( However i do know for some people this is the most effective way) But the reason i like expert testimony rather then a regular narrative is because in a expert testimony the person is an expert in the field relating to the controversy not just a random person with there own personal opinions. I also think that pictures can be very effective. For me personally they are good because i am a visual learner so a picture really helps me see whats happening. I espeacsilly liked the pictures in the “connecting the city” video because they showed evidence of what the streets and bike lanes how they are now. However they also added  to the images what they expect it to look like with  the new added bike ways.  I also feel like people use personal experiences as there own evidence to evaluate problems. For me i noticed that i used my own personal experiences when evaluating the debate on the panhandle bike ways. I feel like the bike lane that is already in the panhandle is very safe and good for biking. I feel like after observing the cars on fell that road is mostly used for commuting so if you take away a lane to add a bike lane it could cause a lot of traffic.  I feel that because of my own experiences they should leave the panhandle the way it is and not add another bike way when they have a perfectly good one right there!
