Nominate the Next McCarthy Award Recipient
Call for Nominations – 2021 Leo T. McCarthy
Award for Public Service
The Leo T. McCarthy Award for Public Service is named after the Center’s founder and former California State Assembly speaker and lieutenant governor, Leo Tarcisius McCarthy. Known as a champion of justice, he founded USF’s McCarthy Center to prepare the next generation of ethical leaders.
The award is given bi-annually to an individual whose work makes a difference in the lives of people most affected by injustice. It recognizes persons of significant accomplishment who continue to lead for progressive change serving the common good. Like the award’s namesake, winners inspire others to lead, devote their energy to equity and justice, and maintain the highest ethical standards in their personal and professional lives. Public service is defined broadly to include anyone serving the public good including persons in government, philanthropy, education, and the nonprofit world.
All members of the university community and the general public are invited to nominate extraordinary candidates who champion social and economic justice. Make a short online submission HERE. Email Leslie Lombre, Director of External Relations, (415) 422-2983 or email <llombre@usfca.edu> with questions. Deadline to submit nominations: Jan. 31, 2020.
The recipient of the 2021 Leo T. McCarthy Award will be announced in Fall 2020 and the Awards Ceremony will take place in March 2021.
