I really like the idea and concept of these individual conferences. I think it is really important that teachers and students have a relationship in which the teacher can explain what they have in mind for the assignment and why, and help to clearly discuss this with their student while reviewing how the student is doing in class rather than simply getting a grade at the end of an assignment. In this setting, a student can also feel more welcomed and understood in that sense, knowing that the teacher is really trying to get to know them and can see how this can play into their role in the classroom setting. I think that this individual was beneficial because I was able to explain my thoughts about the assignment and ask for his advice on how to incorporate my ideas in to the guided outline for our first speech. I am excited to begin planning my first speech and talk about my home while incorporating bicycles into the mix.
