Expedition #1
After yet another successful bike ride for our Speaking of Bicycles class, Sierra, Jordan and I decided to head over to Haight Street and find a refreshing snack! Although we were looking for Veganburg at first, we decided to stop at Ben & Jerry’s to get smoothies. Jordan and I had the Blended Strawberry Lemonade while Sierra had the Cookies and Cream Milkshake. This was a great, refreshing adventure and made me think about how grateful I am to have a bike to use for the semester. I think that bikes are a great way to get around, especially in San Francisco as a college student, because everything is so close and it is great for the environment. You can go at any speed you desire, and also stop at any time, not having to look for or pay for those ridiculous San Francisco Parking prices. It was so convenient to get to ride our bikes from class to Ben and Jerry’s and way faster than walking. This also made me think about how great bicycles are as a form of transportation and want to encourage others to do the same. I think that things like driverless cars and mass, super speed transportation are the way of the future, but bicycles are a great personal form of transportation and can have a much greater positive impact on the community and the environment than cars. Besides a car like Tesla, cars produce many emissions into the air while in use, and although carpooling is highly encouraged, it may not always be the case. Bicycles have no emissions while in use and can be used for many diverse reasons that all have a positive impact on our community. I plan to invest in my own bicycle, especially for when I go back to Hawaii!
