This is a picture of a farm factory fill with pigs in China. As my first impression, I only though that this picture is trying to tell us about how Chinese farm industries are huge and how well organized that pig industries are. But as I look carefully, I found out that this picture is not only showing us those, but also showing us how Chinese technology improved in farm industries. As we can see carefully, there are facial recognizable scans on some of those pigs. Those are actually new technology that China developed- pig face recognition. They use this tech to check how pig’s health conditions are. They may also develop more tech in the further, for example, voice recognition for pig.

An Ebola survivor, George Bryan, walks his 5-year-old son, William, who tested positive for Ebola, at the Bong County treatment center. Cured, George was free to go home. But the staff told him that, now immune, he would be the best person to look after his son. William died a few days later. (Daniel Berehulak, The New York Times – Oct. 19, 2014)
Based on my reading of this introduction of this photograph, I felt emotionally touched. This picture is a father (George Bryan) hold his son (William) ‘s hand walking along at the Bong County treatment center. This center is where isolate patients who have been infected by Ebola. And the father George was infected by Ebola because he got the test back and it shows positive. I believe in this picture, the father must be so happy that he got immune.  George can take care of his little son forever. But this is so ironic. William died after a few days. Now George got no one to take care. It is a sad story but also touched.
I believe the author tries to use Patho to attract audiences’ attention.

This Literacy Narrative is about how Oscar Estrada’s identity is shaped by his living environment and background, and how he feels and experience about as a minority language speaker. He mentioned that he was in elementary school for 7 years in Egypt and came to Philipino until now. Therefore he learned to speak a lot of different languages, Spanish, Franch, and English. But as he was in Egypt and Philipino, those languages that he speaks are not majority languages in both countries. Therefore he would get made fun by others because of his accents. Although sometimes people will make fun of it,  most of the time he feels that as a three language speaker and have an international background gave him a lot of different experiences. For example, he can make friends from diversity countries, he can learn to accept other cultures, and being a good global citizen.

This story can help me from the aspect of being a global citizen and minority language speaker. Because my story is also about how I grow up in a minority group in China, and how I gain experiences and friends from being a minority speaker.

Main expectations the assignment has is to make short audio that is an important event or story that is related to your identity, culture and racial stereotypes. I am going to write about the conflict between my nationality and ethics. As I am a minority group in China, a lot of cultures and ideas are different from the majority.  I will explain what is my cultural background and write about some experiences that I go through because of my identity. While I am going to use the audio essay, I may use pictures, music, and videos that are related to the culture of my minority.

I have a really close sister which is my uncle’s daughter, and she is three years younger than me. We have been playing together for about 12 years, which means we start to play when we were just a little kid. We have a lot of treasurable memories, but also some bad memories. I am saying it is a bad memory because it was felt like a “big incident” for me back at the time, but right now I think this story is humorous. This incident happened about 7 years old. We were playing at my sister’s house, and suddenly we start to fight for no reason. We were both really mad at each other, and both cried. I remember that I said I am going house because I do not want to stay with you anymore. If I was my sister, I would be so mad and let me out of my house after the fight. But my sister didn’t, she took my phone and hug me so tight:” you can not leave here, even though I am mad!” My sister and I would still mention about this story for fun right now and thinks that we were so naive and dramatic.

I choose Linda Wang’s discussion, after reading it I found some similarities and differences between her and mine. First, our argument is about how paths can impact the audience and attract more attention. We both used the example of distinguishing the difference between visual media and written form media.  Also, we both agree on the argument that visual media such as movie and television can more effectivity attract audience’s attention, because of the visual impact.

There are also differences between her and my argument. First is Linda pointed out more details that are about how visual media attract the audience’s attention. For example, she mentioned image, sounds, the tone of voices, which are more detail than mine. Second is I used the film industry as an example to compare with novel and fiction, which can let my audience understanding more easily and clearly.
