In the summer, the MSEM program starts to gear up for the upcoming semester, connecting with new prospective students and meeting with our incoming grad class. We enjoy hearing from each of our new students to learn about their interests and what they hope to gain from the program. MSEM has some events and workshops as we ease out of the summer into the fall semester, here’s everything we’ve got coming up.
July 19th: MSEM Info Session for Prospective Students
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in the MSEM program to ask their questions and hear all about the classes and opportunities students have while studying at USF.
July 20th: CAS New Grad Student Open House + GIS Summer Workshop for Incoming MSEM Students
The College of Arts & Sciences is hosting an evening for all new graduate students to connect with each other throughout all the programs. There will be MSEM staff to meet with and will be taking place at USF’s newly renovated Koret Lodge on Lone Mountain with breathtaking views! There will also be a breakout session for new MSEM students to participate in the GIS Summer Workshop. This will be run by Fernanda Lopez-Ornelas, the GsAL (Geospatial Analysis Lab) manager and one of our GIS professors. In this workshop students will learn about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and how it can be applied to environmental science.
August 12th: MSEM Orientation
Every year, just before classes begin, we have our mandatory orientation for new MSEM students where they’re able to mingle with students, faculty, and alumni. There is an introduction to the program, a current student and alumni panel session, and luncheon with food provided to connect with one another.
August 13th: Math & Excel Workshop
These are instructor led sessions that are helpful and available for all incoming students. For students who have been out of school for a while or are changing career paths, these workshops reintroduce important topics and act as a refresher before classes begin.
