Every Fall and Spring semester, we host the MSEM Master’s Projects presentations. Faculty and students, family and friends, alumni and prospective students join this conference-style event and celebration. On December 14th, we celebrated the Fall 2023 Master’s Project students the night before their commencement ceremony, with their project advisor, Prof. Tracy Benning.
Congratulations to our Fall 2023 MSEM Graduates:
Marina Riddle
Alexis Illich
Leydi Puerto
Rekha Duthulur
Jeanette Moritz
This Fall’s Master’s Project presentations covered an array of topics regarding clean energy solutions, water treatment and management, and management of invasive species. Marina’s project proposed viable areas to install solar-powered microgrids in Northern California using GIS analysis.
Alexis focused on a case study of the Four Corners Power plant energy transition in Navajo (Diné) land and assessed possible replacement options. Leydi used GIS to assess the needs for improved wastewater treatment in Yopal, Colombia. Rekha looked at managing nitrate contamination of groundwater in agricultural zones. Jeanette examined control methods on two invasive plant species along California’s Central Coast.
From complex ecological issues, to environmental health concerns, to sustainable energy, all five presentations gave insight on managing real world challenges. As these graduates embark on the next phase of their journeys, their projects contribute to a more sustainable and just future.
Congratulations!
