Welcome back! Fall is in full-swing here at USF and we have some neat learning, networking and professional growth opportunities coming up very soon in MSEM: A Fall panel featuring three professionals from the private sector whose companies support environmental management practices, Professor Stephanie Siehr hosting a workshop on policy action, and our graduating students presenting their Master’s Project Presentations at the end of the term.

Here’s the run-down:

  • November 4th MSEM/GsAL panel event on the role of data analytics and artificial intelligence in Environmental Management: a perspective from the private sector

Monday, November 4th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in Berman Room, Fromm Hall

For the panel event, our panelists will discuss how the advancement of technological tools have created new industries and transformed the quality of services available to their customers to enable more accurate and efficient solutions for critical environmental issues, and how students can be best prepared to enter this highly technical market. This event will highlight the innovative technologies and data to support agricultural land management, carbon and emission credits analysis, and accurate fire risk estimation in the face of climate change. • November 21stEnvironmental Action Workshop: Leverage Points in the Policy Process, facilitated by USF MSEM Professor Stephanie Siehr*

In last week’s blog post we were in touch with Prof. Siehr on her return from Climate Week in New York City, hearing from her collective thoughts on the issues of climate change at hand, what is being done in corporate, and her positive reflection.

Here is a look into the policy topic she will be heading up very soon:

Faculty in MSEM, Professor Stephanie Siehr is currently in her sabbatical year.

In this environmental action workshop, students will learn how to take action at different leverage points in the policy process, from 3-minute testimonies at local City Council meetings, to written public comments on Federal agency decisions; from community meetings that raise awareness and support, to policy demands while marching in the streets. With these skills, students can contribute to attaining immediate environmental and justice goals, and to making long-term system change, as well as making the long-term systemic changes we need for a healthy planet and communities.
