Museum of the African Diaspora Summer 2014 [Akhil]

Hello all,

I am a senior at the University of San Francisco who is majoring in marketing. Over the summer, I was given the chance by Monika Hudson to intern at the Museum of the African Diaspora. I am very fortunate and grateful for this opportunity, as for an international student ( I am from India!) it is not easy to find an internship at an established organization such as MoAD.

I am especially ecstatic to be at MoAD. This is because it is an institution that is the source of learnings that display both the social and cultural aspects that connect Africa to the African Diaspora. In addition, I learn what those teachings tell of of issues that are current today, to African Americans and people of African descent.

My position at the museum is a Public Programs Intern. Subsequently, my tasks include assisting on the preparation and logistics of all MoAD in the neighborhood programs this summer. Also, I will be performing data entry on Programs Visitor Survey and analysis of collected data, and helping with grant research and writing for upcoming exhibition programs. And part of the job also includes supporting the Programs Office Staff.

I will end my first blog post by revalidating how lucky I am to have this internship, and by posting a couple of photos of my office and of the museum.
