My full name is Rae Norton, and is commonly assumed to be a nickname for Rachel. My mom was very set on giving me an uncommon name and she was definitely successful in that. She named me after an artist she met as a young adult and loved how unusual her name was. I’ve only met a few other girls with the full name Rae, especially since Ray is a very common boys name. I used to be very insecure about my name in my youth since it was less associated with femininity than other girls names. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to really appreciate my name. The shortness of it has lead to a lot of very interesting and comedic nicknames among friends, and it makes me really happy that so many people associate my name so heavily with my presence since I’m the only person they know named Rae. I managed to grow into my name really well and wouldn’t want to be referred to as anything else since it really syncs well with my personality.
