I want to look at the topic of insulin costs in the USA. In my essay, I could use logos and pathos. I think these really help when giving a speaker creditability and making sure the audience trusts the speaker. I also think that using pathos is a very easy way to connect to the audience because emotion is something everyone experiences and empathy goes along with that. I think that when news sources use a lot of pathos in their stories however, it makes people wonder if the source is trustworthy. I think the best thing to do is to have things in moderation. If you have too much logo’s you could bore your audience and if you have too much pathos they may question your ethos. but if you have an equal amount of both it can help make your ethos better and your audience will trust you more. I also think that knowing your audience can be very impactful on the effectiveness of your argument.

There are many issues in the world right now but one of the main ones in pollution. Plastic soup, written by Michiel Roscam Abbing, takes this issue by force and explains it in depth. In Review: Plastic Soup: An Atlas of Ocean Pollution done by Yves Laberge(2019) they say, “Because of its clear and concise style, Michiel Roscam Abbing’s Plastic Soup can surely be useful in high schools and colleges, but it could as well serve in university classes in various disciplines: Environmental Education, Education for Sustainable Development, Environmental Sociology, and even Chemistry”(2). Laberge’s review shows how big of an issue Pollution is and how many different aspects of life it can impact.

September 2: In class writing

In Ruby’s response to the reading, she talked about how even if two people do not have the same opinion on a topic they can both be correct. For example, she talked about how she doesn’t like fox news but some people might, and that’s okay. as long as they both have the information and resources to back up why they do or don’t like it they are both trustworthy speakers. I agree with this but in my response, I talked more about how you could get people to trust you as a speaker and Ruby talked more about how she felt about the topic as a whole. Overall I think we both had interesting points and even if we didn’t write the same thing we both understood the article and had the same ideas afterward.
