Write Out Project 5

Alright so for my project 5 I talked about how my perception of cycling shifted from sort of strictly either fun or competitiveness to more of a sort fo image of utility. I sort of go into explaining my thought process by using all of the expeditions that we went on throughout the class and all of the articles we read on the history of cycling. I think this project is a lot different from my past projects because its a lot more personal and strictly only my thoughts compared to the other projects where the projects were sort of centered around something that related to me but, it wasn’t necessarily me.

Project 5 Outline

I will introduce the topic- point of the project basically the theme of project 5

Idea/Body-Perception of the usefulness of cycling has changed.

-Through all of the expeditions and experiences with cycling throughout the class my perception of cycling changed.

Conclude- examples of the usefulness of bicycles and cycling overall

Reading Response-Is it plagiarism

I looked at the flow chart analyzing what exactly is plagiarism. I actually think a flow chart works really well with something like, this because the subject of plagiarism can be very boring or overall, negative and when you use a few chart it feels light hearted and just easier to read overall.

I think the idea that patch writing is actually considered plagiarism. I just never thought something like this would be considered to be plagiarism, I think to a certain point it should be but, I just didn’t think it to be overall.

Reading Response-Oral Communication Value Rubric

So I read over the Value Rubric which is basically a rubric that goes over what it takes to give a good presentation. The sheet also, went over some useful vocabulary that I think is useful to know when working to understand what makes an effective communicator. The intro to the rubric states that it was sort of designed by several professors in a university so I assume it is strictly for academic grading.

I think a rubric like, this could be useful o study when preparing for a presentation because it kind of sets the standards that your expected to follow and thus, sort of lets you know what it takes to give a good presentation. If that makes sense.

Reading Response- Establishing Credibility

Establishing Credibility uses the ideas of ethos to outline the importance and how to establish your credibility as a speaker. The author goes on to speak on the importance of credibility as it is the single most important thing that a speaker can have. To be credible adds weight to your argument, your points and words, thus really solidifying your points and being overall, more persuasive.

I think the most interesting idea that the author offers is the idea that good character or solid credibility may only be an appearance. I think this idea it something that was always sort of apparent to me but, I never really considered when thinking about the credibility of speakers.

Reading Response-How to Conclude

The article that I read was How to Conclude, which basically went over how to effectively  conclude a presentation or speech. The author talks about using techniques such as a sign post to signal   the conclusion of your speech and then solidify your conclusion with a clincher or statement that will keep your argument around in peoples minds.

I think that the idea of a clincher is really important when giving presentations because it is the final idea or thought that you could share with the audience. i bruce that the last impression you sort of set with the audience is the impression that they would remember, so it would be good to end on a strong and dominant point.

Reading Response-Understand the Audience

I read an article written by Nancy Duarte talking about the importance and power of the audience. Duarte goes about analyzing the importance of the audience by talking about how a presenter should go about approaching the audience; kind of segmenting the audience by several different traits, thinking about the ideas you want yo communicate, thinking about how the audience may respond and  making sure to practice so your are prepared when presenting in front of your audience.

I think the most interesting point that Duarte sort of brought up separating the audience by the several “graphics”.  Like, separating them by demographics, psychographics, ethnographics etc. I think I found this idea to be really interesting because I never really thought of doing something like, this to the audience. When I walk into a room I may scan the room and analyze the overall trend in terms of demographics but, I never thought to incorporate this into my actual argument.

Reading Response-Citing Evidence

The article that I read was Citing Evidence by Joseph Zompetti. In the article he spoke about how to properly cite your soruces as well as the importance behind properly labeling your sources. He also, emphasizes in his closing statements that evidence does nog make or break your paper. You shouldn’t allow evidence to completely dominate your argument or misquote your evidenc, which is something that I think is very important to recognize.

In terms of evidence that I deem credible, I think evidence that is very detailed and a quote(depending on who it is from) is credible. Evidence can be misused I think if it is taken out of context or if you completely misinterpret the quote. Which is sort of obvious being that you can really effectively use a quote if you do not understand it.

class 6

So I was also, missing this day but, from reviewing what professor hunt posted about for that day it seemed as though he talked about body health or being aware of the overall health of your body. Which is pretty interesting I think and should be a pretty big topic in cycling considering that it is a sport and the who jist of a sport is to use your body as a sort of tool to compete.

Class 10

I was actually absent this day but, after reviewing what happened Im going to talk about my community for project 3. So the community I decided to go with was the science community and particular biology. I connect with this community because im obviously and biology major but, im also, interested in medicine so those two things sort of go hand and hand.
