One of the easiest ways to use up some leftover apples is by making a childhood favorite food, applesauce! With 3 simple ingredients and a little bit of labor in the kitchen you can whip this recipe up easily and use up those remaining apples. Applesauce is a great snack to be eaten on its own cold or warm or you can even use it in baking to substitute eggs. Any way you choose to use this recipe I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

Ingredients:

  • Apples

  • Water

  • Cinnamon

  • Sugar (optional)

  2. Next, peel and core you’re apples removing any bruising or areas of the apples that have begun to rot. You can save the peels and cores to make apple cider vinegar and go one step further in using up every part of the apple before it is discarded.

  3. Now chop the apple remains into slices or small chunks and add them to a pot. The size of the slices does not really matter but the smaller they are the faster they tend to cook.

  4. Before turning on the stove, add about a half an inch or so of water to the pot, you want to make sure the bottom slices are covered. Once they begin cooking the apples will release liquid on their own but you can always add more water if necessary while they are cooking.

  5. Turn on the stove to medium low heat and bring to a boil. Depending on the amount of apples it can take 15 to 30 minutes for them to boil, so in the meantime stir them occasionally and make sure there is still some water at the bottom of the pot.

  6. Once they boil you can turn the heat down to low and begin to mash the slices to your desired consistency. This may take awhile but be patient, it is worth it!

  7. Once they are semi-mashed you can add cinnamon and if you find the apples not sweet enough some sugar as well. Incorporate them into the sauce and continue mashing them until you are satisfied with the consistency.
