Second life can be an effective tool for teaching and learning. However, like any hardware/softeware it can also post certain challenge to both instructors and students.  Instructors need to carefully evaluate the hardware and software requirements and be sure that the requirements do not post a barrier to entry. Virtual Ability Island is aimed to help people with disability to use second life.
