4/19 Blog post on Essay 2 Feedback:

Through the very effective feedback of TIKA, I clearly realized that I still have a lot to improve. I should have studied my grammar more carefully and solved run-on sentences. I should have used a more specific APA Format internally, rather than simple numbers as in those papers. In addition, I should also choose some more suitable examples to make the article more convincing. I still need to improve my ability to organize essays.

I think the main argument is about the Conflicts of cultural integration. In Haoyuan’s response, she thinks the author mainly discusses how her status as a Vietnamese immigrant, her efforts to integrate into American society, and her father’s marriage to a woman of Mexican origin all led to the development of her distinct multiethnic identity.  She also realized the seriousness of discrimination and culture clashes in America. Andrew thinks she is born and raised in America, she doesn’t know which group she identifies with. With America being a melting pot of different cultures and backgrounds, She has experienced the confusion of knowing my cultural identity.

Today I do my response for Kristina.

We both mention that the evident clash between two different generations.  They have many different points of view on how to face things. Grandma Wong’s prejudiced mindset is completely different from her grandchildren’s as they grew up in different environments and generations, creating two completely different cultural identities. Kristina had made a really good conclusion.

Kristina mentioned in her response that Granny Wong showed her insensitivity to racial issues by telling the truth. Her granddaughters often correct Grandma’s opinion on the matter. It was also a clash of cultures in their time.

We think of the characteristics of this multilingual writing by a Chinese American writer. They prefer to use stories to express the author’s central idea. Compared with the essay we wrote, this type of essay is less direct to express the theme. The second point is that Chinese writers’ content seems to be more diversified due to cultural differences. There are some particularities in the understanding of other cultures.

The only thing I want to propose to people to do now I think is “do not waste food anymore.’ Food had been waste a lot around the world. I know there still have many people in the world that do not have enough food to keep healthy. Although there have some public welfare organizations distribute food to the poor, they still do not have a stable food source. there are some reasons why there is much-wasted food. The restaurant order over weight food and people can not finish it. people order too much food and they leave it in the restaurant. In order to fill the shelves with goods and make people more eager to buy them, stores produce too many products, which leads to waste.

The country should encourage all its citizens to stop wasting food. Citizens are encouraged to take home more food than they can eat. Television stations produced public service advertisements to promote the idea of not wasting food. The government asked every restaurant to put up a notice advocating not to waste food. Through these ways, the concept of cherishing food is deeply rooted in people’s hearts.

4/7 Individual writing

Firstly, visual designs to create pathos are significant in making your argument stronger as it is directed at the audience’s senses, memory, and experiences to make it more relatable. Pathos is appeal based on emotion. To visually appeal to the reader’s emotions, think first of the writing goal, then focus on the design you choose. A good visual design should include using headings, considering emotional responses to color, using type fonts, avoiding complex patterns, and placing your images strategically.

Next, combining visual elements with ethics can develop a convincing argument as you can create a framework for how you want to be perceived and what values you want to express. Use good images can enhance credibility and authority and the detail of design can reflect your ethos.

In addition, visuals to develop your logos is preferable as it makes statistical and numerical data easier to apprehend. An emblem or a logo is important and can symbol authority. The visual information becomes easier to understand

_Y_ William Ellis asserts that world problems such as poverty, pollution, war, and hunger are inherent in the current system of world order based on nation-states and economic competition (p. 23).

Because he/she does not give us the publisher and the date of publishing, and he/she misses the direct citing.

_Y_Global tensions and inequities can be solved if people begin to help one another on a grass-roots basis, moving beyond the current world order of economic competition (Ellis 23).

Because he/she does not give us the publisher and the date of publishing.

_N_Ellis (2011) argues that global problems are often a result of exploitation inherent in economic competition. He contends that “grassroots….people-to people linkages irrespective of national borders” can do much to ease global tensions (p. 23).

_Y_Economic competition is at the basis of many of the world’s problems (Ellis 23). Only by seeing ourselves as a single family without the separation of national boundaries can world tensions begin to be eased.

Because he/she does not give us the publisher and the date of publishing. And also, the second sentence is a kind of paraphrase, and the name of the author should be put at the end.

_Y_Ellis (2011) argues that world problems are caused by overpopulation and that the only possible solution is an enforced tax on families who have more than one child (p. 23).

  • It makes ethos and logos appeal because it is credential and ethical. This video is from a reliable source, which is “Davita Kidney Care” and it is a health care company. It persuades the audience by presenting visual rhetoric that displays how to wear masks properly. It also depicts images of how to wear masks in an effective way and it presents thorough logical reasoning throughout the video

April 5 reading response analysis

today I am going to respond to Haoyuan’s response. her main point is the authors discuss the arguments based on visualization and how to use visual rhetoric to appeal to audiences. She uses the example of posters to prove that such photographs are effective at gathering information in an efficient and convincing manner. The difference between her and me is that I have emphasized that the content of images is very important in the early estimation. Because visuals will probably touch members of your audience more strongly than words alone could. Only images that fit the theme can better play their role.

similarities:

written and verbal methods to transmit information  is inefficient and have limitations

the multimodal argument has many new ways now to transmit such as images/video/sound etc. these are faster and more convenient to transmit information.

differences:

yongkui: People can easily find out the information they want through the characteristics of different new media platforms. It has higher accuracy and efficiency.

haoyuan: Many of these genres and formats have been “remediated” by electronic media. Fortunately, the extreme, conscientious, and meticulously studied points that typify the best of old media are not in danger of extinction.
