So for me, I struggle with the cigarette, because some of my friends start to smoke and I don’t think this is good behavior. so I  may be going to choose some paper which tale about why is bad for a human to smoke and analyze the paper.

Intro– some of my friends start to smoke and I want to stop them at the beginning of this behavior because I don’t think smoking is good. and the paper I find gives me a good point to the argument,

A wise old gentleman, who mostly spent his summers in his cottage, retired and bought a home near a Middle School.  When the school year begins,  his peace and quiet came to a sudden halt.

On the first day of school, three boys came down. The alley beating merrily on every trash can they see, and the same thing happens the next day and the next. The noise started driving the wise old man crazy. It is time for action.

he stopped the drummers as they banged their way down the street in the afternoon. He said, “You kids are a lot of fun! I love hearing your drumming, because it is so cheerful, and it reminds me of what I use to do at your age, will you do me a favor?”

The boys looked at him suspiciously. “What?” they asked. “I’ll give you a dollar if you promise to come around every single day and keep beating on those trash cans,” said the man.

The boys were thrilled. Every day they pounded on trash cans and collected a dollar.

After about a week, the wise old man stopped the boys again and this time he looked a little bit said, I still ‘love your drumming,  However I’m afraid spending a dollar a day is hard on me, I’m on a fixed income. From now on, I only to be able to pay you 50 sense to beat on the cans.’

The boys weren’t too happy, but they decided to accept 50 cents a day, and they continued beating on all the trash cans. After another week the clever old man stopped the boys again. “I’ve got more bad news,” he said. “My Social Security check hasn’t come yet, so I’m not going to be able to give you more than 25 cents a day. Is that all right?”

“Are you kidding?” said one of the boys. “We’re not going to waste our time beating on those trash cans for only a lousy quarter! We quit!

The wise old man smiled and enjoyed his peace and quiet again.

Library research practice:

According to people’s impressions, Chinese people tend to avoid conflicts rather than confront them directly. . It is believed that Chinese people’s non-argumentative predispositions are just the plainly natural consequences of the fact that China has a longstanding tradition of stressing the notion of harmony within its cultural value systems and mainstream philosophies. This paper expresses doubt about these scholarly views and then tests them empirically.

Chinese philosophical traditions feature harmony.  In order to evaluate the validity of this claim, this paper sketches Chinese people’s feelings and understandings about interpersonal arguing by reporting results of a data collection in China, using measures of argumentativeness, verbal aggressiveness, argument frames, and personalization of conflict. As a result, an emphasis on preserving harmony has been deeply rooted in Chinese culture and cherished in Chinese social lives. In this paper, we sketched Chinese people’s feelings and understandings of interpersonal arguing with empirical findings and gave a crosscultural analysis of argument predispositions by comparing our results with those from a US sample. Chinese and US respondents differed in complex ways, but we did not find Chinese to be more argument-avoidant.

Our group searched the image from the BLOGS within Uttaranchal (P.G.) College Of Bio-Medical Sciences & Hospital |UCBMSH.ORG. And it brings us a very strong emotional impact. It is powerful to use the forests in the shape of lungs and gives us the controversial way to illustrate that we need to protect the forests immediately. The trees that have been cut down are the lungs of the earth–forests, which have been damaged by human activities in order to make money.

The image represents the idea of protecting the lungs of our planet. Lungs are associated with breathing which is associated with staying alive. It lets us think about where the air that we breathe comes from. There is a strong contraction of the torn-down section of trees. The picture shows the ecological environment is destroyed by extensive deforestation from humans. It appeals to us to protect the environment and not over-cut the trees anymore. If we do not stop right now, we will be harmful to ourselves.

FEB 24 in Class writing

Writing in groups:

Passage 1:

A man from the city came to visit a small farm, and he saw a farmer feeding pigs in a very strange way. The farmer would lift a pig up to a nearby apple tree, then the pig would eat the apples directly off the tree. The farmer would move the pig from one apple to another until the pig was full, then he would start again with another pig.

The man from the city was pretty puzzled. He watched for quite a while and finally said, “What a strange way to feed pigs! It’s a waste of time! You could save a whole lot of time if you just shook the apples off the tree and let the pigs eat them from the ground!” The farmer looked puzzled and replied, “What’s time to a pig?”

Passage 2:

A young man was waiting in line at the bank and he developed a loud case of hiccups. It got worse and worse. By the time he got to the teller’s window, he could hardly talk. He handed the teller his check to cash.

The teller was tapping numbers into the computer. In a moment, she was looking up and frowning and said, “I can’t cash your check.”

The man was shocked and asked, “Why not?”

She said, “the computer indicates that you do not have sufficient funds to cover this amount. In fact, our records show that your account is overdrawn by more than $5000.00.”

“It can’t be!” cried the man. “You’ve got to be kidding!”

You’re right. I am,” she smiled. She started counting out his cash. “You will notice that your hiccups are gone, though!”

Audio Essay Draft

This story is about changing my free time activities and trying to do something more meaningful. The story is really about how you need to constantly break your comfort zone in order to improve.

Because these are ZOOM’s college days. At home, there is more free time available for us to spend. The easiest and most time-consuming option for me when I have more time is to download a mobile game and indulge in it. Things will get boring after a few days. Momentary fun on the phone is actually not good. We need to take something good, something beneficial to make us move forward. Doing a part-time job is a very good way for college students to get in touch with society.

I didn’t want to waste my free time, so I found a job in a hot pot restaurant, which not only relieved the pressure of my family, but also made some money, and more importantly, I could meet many different personalities when serving customers. Although we only have a short contact with them when serving customers, for those of us who have never been deeply in touch with society, meeting different people may be helpful for our future social work. At least communication with people will improve. In this part-time job, I learned a lot. I had contact with society and communicated with many people.

In the hotpot restaurant, my job is a waiter. Every day will come to all kinds of guests, all kinds of high quality, have low quality, you have to serve, deal with a smile to greet. In this diverse society, you may meet all kinds of people, but you must learn to know these people, read these people. Participated in the work, usually in a team. Working outside, you must learn to unite and cooperate, learn to obey, learn to tolerate, learn to calm down.

Looking back on my working process carefully, I have gained a lot. There is the care of colleagues, there is the supervisor’s teaching. And the guest’s evaluation of me is the only sincere thing I get in this job, I use my smile service in exchange for their praise, appreciation, which is that they let me realize the value of my job. This part-time job is very meaningful for me, let me learn to communicate with all kinds of people. Although I am still immature, it is this job that makes me realize the importance of a team.

This part-time job is a good challenge for me who have never worked in society. I’m glad I chose to go to work when I had the time. Choose things you don’t get to do in school. I believe that as long as we keep stepping out of our comfort zone and keep trying to touch some of the good things that we don’t touch. We can constantly improve ourselves and make ourselves better.

This is a video that helps us go through our difficult times. After watching this video, we feel motivated. He uses failure as examples, so it somehow connects with the audience because we have failed multiple times at some point in our life. And the speaker is trying to say it’s ok to fail; it’s ok not to do well. As long as we have the passion and start going for it, we will succeed one day.  For every ten failures, you’ll land one success. To believe that you’re willing to fail ten times before you can succeed one.

Ethos: The speaker did his research and knew what he was talking about.

Pathos: The background music of this video could change our mood and feeling. The example that the author is more board and most people can relate to the experience of Failure.

Logos: “Failure isn’t permanent. Falling isn’t permanent.” If you try hard enough, you will succeed one day.

Feb 17 Reading Response

Today I response to liting’s discussion.

We all think that the two articles have good advantages worth learning. Our understanding of the article is similar. Both agree that in “Being a Writer,” the writer uses his own examples and tells his own story, which is very helpful. In Sherry’s story, specific examples are used to make the article more convincing. In my discussion, one more point in my summary of “being a successful writer” is that the author likes his own article is infectious, and this appeal will make people like this article.

I think the second paragraph of Liting summarizes the advantages of the two articles very well. This makes her point very clear to the reader.

Momentary fun on the phone is actually not good.  We need to take something good, something beneficial to make us move forward. And small improvements can be made. For example, I started working out and keep on running every day. It’s hard to stick to things, but when you do it every day, the benefits start to show. The body gets better, and the spirit gets better. I still spend time on mobile games, but I don’t get sucked into them. Games are only tools for temporary entertainment. Learning to be better is the best thing you can do in your spare time. The important thing is to take the first step and stick to it.

I let myself choose to exercise in my free time instead of playing games. This is only a small step forward, but if this spirit is constantly applied to every part of life. The impact of the river can constantly change the course of the river. As long as I keep stepping out of my comfort zone, my life will change dramatically. You can do the same.
