After compare with other classmates’ answer, I find out that we all have similar idea. For example, me and Sophie, we have same opinion on we can’t just translate essay into video, we need to put more things like pictures, music or other interesting things, that can make the video more interesting.

At same time, I find out that Ab and I have different opinion. She thinks that we should not write a concrete script for the video essay because people tend to talk differently than we speak. But I think that we need to write what we going to film first, then we can follow what we write.

Activity 1
For a long time, my stepson, Jonathan, was unhappy to have me as part of his family, for
he resents that he didn’t have both biological parents at home. I try to get to know him
better, but he would complain that I invade his privacy. As a newcomer, I understood that
our relationship will require effort from both of us. It is not enough that I was friendly.
Jonathan also has to want us to be friends, and I was not happy with the two of us being
strangers, but I can wait for him to feel more comfortable around me.
Activity 2
Anne Marie collects antique bottles and loved to turn them into works of art. She will buy
bottles if she liked them, but she prefers to find them in the ground. She will find bottles
everywhere, but she picked them selectively. However, she has the best luck at
construction sites on old farmland, where she spent most of her time. Often, bottles
appeared on the surface after a good rain, but they disappear very soon. She will use
special tools for excavating bottles, including a set of brushes. She did not want to break
the bottles as she removes them from the ground. After finding a new bottle, Anne Marie
will add it to her display case and hung on the wall as an artistic piece (Mangelsdorf,
2013, p. 411).

In fact, many people’s images on social networks are quite different from their images in real life. Some people want to leave a good impression on others on social networks. They may want to pretend that their life is very happy. But some people are the opposite. They may be very happy in real life, but they will vent on social media when they are in a bad mood. For example, some people with depression, they behave like other people in real life, but they will post some very depressed words on social network. They seem very happy front people, but they might sad behind people.

The first impression many people make on others will change as they get to know them better. For example, a Chinese actor named Bai Jingting. When people first knew him, they only knew him as an actor. As he uploaded more and more pictures about shoes and basketball on his social network, people knew that he was more than an actor. He also recently participated in NBA events. A person can have many aspects, we see maybe not all of a person.

在我最美丽的时刻 为这
我已在佛前 求了五百年
当你走近 请你细听
朋友啊 那不是花瓣

How to make you meet me
At my most beautiful moment
For this, I have been in the Buddha for five hundred years.
Asking Buddha to let us knot this dust
Buddha turned me into a tree
Growing in the sunshine along the road you must pass
Carefully filled with flowers
Blossoming is the hope of my past life.
When you approach, please listen carefully.
The trembling leaves are the enthusiasm I am waiting for.
And when you finally walked by disregard
Falling behind you
Oh my friend
That is not the petals
Is my dying heart

I feel that the translation of this poem is simply a translation of Chinese into English. But there’s no mood of poetry. It just translates word by word. “I have been in the Buddha for five hundred years” this one is not the original meaning. “Asking Buddha to let us knot this dust” the original meaning of 尘缘 is the happy fate which brings lovers together or destiny that ties people together.

the argument aboout this book is China’s current development is a promise or a threat to the west and the world in the future.

“While supplying such information, this book asks the question if the Western observer should consider China in the present and in the foreseeable future to be a threat or rather a promise to the West and to the rest of the world”(1) Horst J. Helle, 2017

For thousands of years, the Chinese have believed themselves to be at the center of the universe, and this ethnocentric view has often been a reason to threaten the collective actions of other nations. But now, after long and bitter wars and cultural struggles, educated contemporaries in China and the west have found it desirable to overcome ethnocentrism. There is interest not only in the threat to China but also in the hopeful developments that an exchange could lead to: China’s relations with the rest of the world, especially the west, are drawing increasing attention. “While supplying such information, this book asks the question if the Western observer should consider China in the present and in the foreseeable future to be a threat or rather a promise to the West and to the rest of the world”(1) Horst J. Helle, 2017. The author compares the differences between Chinese and western cultures as well as people and behaviors, so that readers can better understand the threats and commitments that the Chinese and westerners face or hide. The author also studies the history of China and discusses the influence of Confucianism and Mozi on the development of China.

Global warming is the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s climate system. Human activity plays a major role in global warming, this phenomenon is sometimes called “man-made global warming” or “man-made climate change” in the melting glaciers, we can see a lot of news in recent years, the polar bears are getting thinner and the ice slowly melting, they had no food and home. With global warming in recent years,we are faced with a lot of extreme weather. Every summer has been hotter than usual, dry, hot weather has led to many wildfires. And like the two earthquakes in San Francisco last year. To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, use more public transportation, such as buses, bicycles, and subways. Reduce chemical fuel emissions. Give the animals on the earth a good home, but also give us a good home.
