This picture, taken by Efrem Lukatsky, shows Ukrainians attending a rally in Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. As the latest news describes, there is a serious conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The main argument of this picture is that innocent people are suffering and probably will force to run away from bombing and constant threats by the Russian government and troops. It can evoke many thoughts but the first one that came to my mind was that after a really challenging Covid-19 situation, they are now facing a possible war. The effectiveness of this picture is even stronger if we consider the emotions it creates in the audience.

Ukrainian citizens protest in the streets against the invasion of Russia. As you can see citizens from a range of ages are standing up together in resistance to the possibility of being invaded by Russian forces. This picture fully expresses the Ukrainian people’s resistance against Russian aggression. Here, UKRAINIANS carry their flag and a banner reading “UKRAINIANS WILL RESIST.” There was courage and determination in their eyes. Their expressions seemed to express their struggle against fate. In the picture, it can be seen that men, women, and children all took part in the parade. All the more to show the resolve of the people of Ukraine. They are proudly raising their nation’s flag to demonstrate their pride. From looking at the image you can see that they are all wearing layers of warm clothes, this is showing that they are willing to protest in the cold for what they want. Being in the cold can demonstrate that they are standing strong against the possible invasion that can occur in their country. Signs saying “Ukrainians Will Resist” is making the claim they are not afraid of the Russian forces. The image is using pathos because it is capturing the citizens rallying together to protest the invasion. The image only uses pathos since there are no public figures or statistics in it.
