In 1997, the CITM meeting at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, featured sessions on: funding, strategic planning, and tuition; exploding networks, traffic growth, and residence halls; re-engineering, rightsizing, downsizing, and outsourcing; technology fees; and Year 2000 issues. Many schools finally had their campus phone systems fully up and running, and now the problem was providing Ethernet service to every dorm room for universal e-mail and Internet connectivity.
Twenty-six attendees represented 19 institutions, including Universidad Iberoamericana and ITESO. A major news item was the creation of CATI, the information technology conference within AUSJAL, opening a path for greater cooperation between CITM and our colleagues in Latin and South America. The conference fee was $175 with no corporate sponsors.
