MAPC Weekly Feature: Week ONE

Every week, we’ll be sharing a short feature on two students from the very first cohort of the new Master of Arts in Professional Communication program here at the University of San Francisco. This will give our friends and connections a chance to learn a bit more about our students’ backgrounds and various areas of expertise, and a way to network with them if their interests dovetail with yours.

This week we are featuring Meixi Song from China and Saurabh Kumar from India. Both started their journey last fall; let’s hear more about their stories….

Meixi Song: MA in Professional Communication – Technical Communication

Meixi is originally from China. She moved to the US to pursue her undergraduate degree in Communication and Media Studies at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She previously volunteered with KSU‘s office of Global Affairs where she was able to assist in their marketing and advertising campaigns, including the Education Abroad Fair.

Meixi is skilled in different areas such as graphic design, web design, social media and communication, as evidenced by this portfolio on her website. She aspires to work as a producer with a gaming company:

“This is why I moved to San Francisco — for all the opportunities it has to offer,” said Meixi.

Her concentration in Technical Communication within the MAPC program will allow Meixi to improve her skills in design, digital media, and technical writing among other areas of expertise. Beyond her professional interests she loves traveling and tasting food from different cuisines wherever she goes. Her life motto is, “When nothing goes right, then go left.”

Saurabh Kumar: MA in Professional Communication – Strategic Communication

Saurabh is originally from India. He moved to the US last year to join the MAPC program. Saurabh finished his undergraduate degree in the field of Electronics Engineering at Anna University in Tamil Nadu, India. Afterward, he began a career in communication through which he realized that his further goal is to join the field of negotiations and crisis response.

“I found myself more interested in the strategic communication concentration as it offers courses in crisis communication and leadership, which I need to pursue my career goals,” said Saurabh.

Saurabh has more than three years of experience in the field, and is planning to expand his experience in the field of negotiation and crisis communication after he finishes his degree. He also highlighted another important aspect of his experience here saying, “being part of this program gives me an opportunity to meet amazing human beings who have had the courage to take this journey and come here with rich experiences and a mature understanding of themselves and the society around them.”

We hope you enjoyed this weekly feature. If you have any questions for our students, leave a reply here or check the same feature on our LinkedIn profile where you can #tag their name in the comments box and they’ll answer you as soon as they can. Thank you!

Stay tuned for next week’s feature.
