You might have noticed a new display at the entrance of the library! We are showcasing our Books to Movies collection. This display gives patrons a glimpse of the books in our collection that have recently been or will be turned into films or tv series! If you want to read the book first, now is the time to stop by the library! Keep reading to see some of the books we have on display right now!
The Sandman: The Dream Hunters
The Sandman: The Dream Hunters by Neil Gaiman and Yoshitaka Amano is being turned into a Netflix series titled The Sandman that is to be released August 5th, 2022. The adaptation will be a ten-episode season. The series focuses on the story of Dream, the Sandman, and his journey after being captured in 1916 and imprisoned by a group of black magic practitioners.
Death on the Nile
Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, published in 1937 has been adapted to film in the movie by the same name. Agatha Christie is well known for her other books such as Murder on the Orient Express and And Then There Were None. The novel follows the character of Hercule Poirot and his task to solve a murder that happened while aboard a steamer boat. This novel was adapted to the big screen and released in February of 2022. It is currently available to stream on Hulu with a subscription.
The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power
An adaptation from The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tells the story of the forging of the Rings of Power, the fall of Númenor and the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron. The first episode of the series is set to be released on Amazon Prime in September 2022.
Pachinko
Pachinko tells the story of a family throughout generations and their stories as a Korean family who emigrated to Japan. It’s a National Book Award finalist, and was adapted into a television series by Apple TV+. The series was released in March of 2022 and was received with positive reviews. The series was completed in April of 2022, and then renewed for a second season. It is available to stream on Apple TV+. Gleeson Library’s copy of Pachinko is currently checked out, but can be put on hold in the meantime.
Salem’s Lot
Salem’s Lot (2022) is based on the book by the same title written by Stephen King. The 2022 movie will be released September 9th in theaters for viewing. The plot is centered around Ben Mears, a writer who returns to his hometown to search for inspiration for his writing. He arrives to Jerusalem’s lot (Salem’s Lot) and finds himself in a town full of vampires.
