A race well run: First-time candidate Aaron Brennan reflects on his bid for San Diego City Council, the current crisis, and what’s next for him as a leader

Aaron Brennan for San Diego City Council

Aaron Brennan, a Navy reservist, retired San Diego Firefighter, and MAPL grad ran a strong race for San Diego City Council—and plans to keep serving.

Aaron Brennan is among the more candid and reflective candidates (and people) you’ll meet, and this interview, relatively quick on the heels of his excruciatingly near miss in the primary, but before his thoughtful endorsement of his primary opponent Will Moore, is no exception. I talked to Brennan about campaigning in (and after) the time of Coronavirus, what Mike Bloomberg (and his money) had to do with the San Diego City Council race, the role of the military in this moment, and what representative democracy might look like in the hands of veterans and first responders like himself.
