“A Coming of Age Film” by Wyatt Fields ’23 was officially nominated for Best First-Time Filmmaker at the Cannes Shorts Film Festival.

Media Studies alum Alexander Flores ’18 recently served as lead editor on a marketing campaign that won Double Gold at the John Barleycorn awards, which celebrates the spirits industry. Flores is Junior Editor at the Oakland-based Slow Clap Productions.

Media Studies alum Karen Ver Trinidad ’17 is working as assistant editor on an upcoming A24 documentary.

Media Studies alum Karim Iliya ’12 is headed to outer space as a member of the dearMoon Crew.

Listen to a Film Sessions podcast interview with Sophie Frey ’23 about her short “Facade,” which received an honorable mention at the Student World Impact Film Festival.

Jeremy Goei ’23 continues to rack up festival awards. The short doc, “Gente Del Barrio,” was a semi-finalist for Best Director (male) and Best Documentary Short at the LA Indie Fest. The short narrative, “Leo Y Fernando” was officially selected in those categories by the LA Indie Short Fest and was also officially selected for Best Short Film at the New Filmmakers NY festival.

Julian Sorapuru ’22 published his first front page story as Fellow at The Boston Globe.

Media Studies major Bridgette Yang named USF’s 2022 Valedictorian.

Media Studies minor (Business Marketing major) Sophia LeTourneau receives the School of Management’s 2022 Medal of Excellence.

This magazine features some of the best work by students of the University of San Francisco’s Department of Media Studies.  Our department offers students a liberal arts-based program in media analysis and media production. Combining theory and practice, students learn how to analyze, deconstruct, and critique media texts and institutions and how to create, share, and collaborate using various forms of media. This magazine showcases the best examples of student work produced for classes in the department.
