Partnership with Parks

The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department (SF Rec and Parks) has formed a new partnership with the University of San Francisco (USF) Master of Science in Environmental Management (MSEM), the Professional Development Internship Program. SF Rec and Parks manages more than 220 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces, as well as 25 recreation centers and several sports facilities, that serve the public. Interns work with staff to provide valuable support in data collection, enhanced management systems, and overall improvement to facilities and programs. Alina Mullins is the first graduate student and the first MSEM student to receive an internship, alongside undergraduate interns from SF State University. Alina brings experience working in air quality management and local government, as well as skills in geospatial analysis and ecology to her project on Parks and Open Space. At USF, Alina is a first-year MSEM student, also pursuing a GIS Certificate. With coursework in Wildfire Ecology, Stream and Riparian Ecology, LiDAR, and Advanced Data Analysis, Alina has much to contribute. She’ll be presenting the results of her internship project in May. With a great match between MSEM skills and SF Rec and Parks needs, MSEM looks forward to this ongoing partnership.
