10/28 essay reflection writing

For my essay, I should pay more attention to the intersection, in-text citations, and References part. First, I do not deal with my intersection very well and do not have good in-text citations which some of them are not that clear. Also for my references is not fit with the APA form, this is my biggest mistake. In this way, next time I should pay more attention to these parts. Especially, pay attention to the quote part.

In the discussion, I found both of us think the main argument of this essay is we should advocates for space for the children of multiethnic families that allow them to embrace aspects of each of their home cultures rather than denying one in favor of another. For ZhihengWang, he shares his best friends’ experience to provide this point that the people suddenly get in to a new environment it will bring a huge challenge. For Ruki, he has a better ability to adapt to the environment,so he do not have such experience.

I read Elizabeth’s response to Marilyn Chin’s essay. One thing Elizabeth and I had in common was our analysis of how Chin’s essay points the culture should not bring difficulty for people to understand each other. And Elizabeth also talked about how despite all the grandmother’s cultural differences what connected them all was love.

__F___ 1. Kyoko needs to write a report on American politics.  She looks up Barack Obama in Wikipedia and discovers he is the 44th president of the United States.  She includes this information in her report but doesn’t mention Wikipedia.

___T__2. Tam is writing a paper on a novel for his English class.  Since the whole class is reading the same book, he doesn’t need to use a citation.

You need intext citation like which chapter/ part/ page.

___T__3. Sugi wrote a paper for his European history class last semester and got an A on the paper. This semester, his Political Science class is addressing some of the same issues that are in his History paper.  He checks with his professor first who agrees with Sugi, so he uses the material from his History paper.

It is self-plagiarism.

__T___4. Ramiro, Stephan, April, and Chris are working on a group project.  Chris submits his work and the others suspect that some of it came from the Internet, but it sounds good, so they submit it.

It uses information from the internet and without citation.

__T___5. Maria finds a lot of good information for her paper on the Internet.  She carefully changes the wording and prepares a good paraphrase.  She doesn’t copy anything verbatim.

It just changes the explanation but still copies the ideal from the internet. In this way, it should bring a citation.

___T__1. You clearly identify the source at the beginning of a paragraph that summarizes the author’s ideas about teenage drinking.  Since readers will naturally assume all of the ideas in the paragraph are from the source, no additional citation is necessary.

It only brings the source but it still needs citation at the end of the essay.

___F__2. In your paper on the history of aviation, you state the date of the Wright brothers’ first successful flight at Kitty Hawk.

Wright brothers’  first successful flight at Kitty Hawk is common knowledge.

__T___6. You find an article that takes the same position you have taken on the subject of gun control. To save time you summarize in your paper a portion of the argument from the article since the author’s ideas are identical to your own.

It should bring the citation.
