After reading the article The Linguistics Tricks of YouTube Stars, I think it is a very good idea to use YouTube voice as a public speaker because it grabs the listener’s attention by not keeping constant all the time. Listeners are drawn in by the change of pace, emphasizing of words, the use of “intellectual used-car-salesman voice, etc. I for one was more drawn to listen to Tyler Oakley’s “20 Emojis that Need to Exist” video than Isla Rowntree’s “Teach your Kid How to Ride a Bike” video. The reason being is that Tyler’s video consisted more of a YouTube voice because he did change the pace talking, he made his voice high pitched at times, and he was using a lot of gestures. It caught more of my attention.
