S4 Reflection

s4

This assessment was the most difficult one of all, the reason I am saying this is because there were many options to choose from and many ideas that popped into my mind. I spent quite a long time coming up with what I wanted to talk about one reason being is that I had no internet access from Tuesday night to Sunday night sooo that was a bit of a problem to even research a topic. When I finally had internet access I began searching advocacy events on Google and most of the things that popped up were the subject of actually just advocating and what it was but I was looking for an event or an organization to advocate. Are searching around and clicking multiple sites I came across a website that wants to end violence towards women and immediately I became interested. I read the entire website and all of its projects that it had going on. I double checked the events and statistics that they mentioned on their website and the facts so the organization of CARE is very credible.

Honestly, I did not feel fully prepared to give this presentation, the reason being is that most of my classes had their finals this week. I did not have enough time to practice my speech aloud and I had written notecard in order to help me out because I felt that I would forget some information which in my case I did. In this presentation, I did not exceed my S3 performance. I feel like I did so much better in my S3 presentation and that is due to the time constraint and putting other work above practicing my speech. I did moderately rely on my notecards and sometimes read off them word for word which I wish I did not have the need to do. I felt nervous in this presentation because I was not prepared, it seemed as if one could hear the nervousness in my voice and my voice sounded especially soft. Also during the presentation, my hair kept getting in my face so I kept having to fix my hair which looks bad to the audience because it looks that I’m playing with my hair and that is not an impression one want to leave the audience. I wanted to leave the audience with a clinger and I do not know if I did accomplish that.

I ended up scheduling an appointment with the speaking center to help me go over how my presentation was structured along with the slides. It was a big help because there were many improvements to be made and I fixed them all only to still feel unprepared while giving my presentation.

The ways I can improve for the future is to give myself sufficient amount of time to get prepared and practice my speech multiple times out loud and in front of people to receive their feedback and in order to not rely so heavily on my notecards.

I really liked Victoria’s video, it was very informative and useful. She used the Youtube voice very well, capturing the attention of the audience. I thought it was very creative that she handed out the CAPS business cards. I liked how Brianna explained the different types of freedoms of speeches. She used images that went hand in hand with the examples that she provided. The slide show was great, it followed with her presentation and weren’t distracting from her presenting her topic. She brought up a very good point about freedom of speech about how if it goes as we grow. By sharing her experience she made her presentation all the more interesting because she was explaining how it felt and what it meant to be participating. And in the end, she offered to give us information of protests to get involved.

  1. I really liked your topic, it was interesting and relevant and it was definitely something people here in America could potentially be unaware about–so it was definitely cool that you were able to bring attention to a super serious world event occurring!
