S3 Reflection

(Well, I kinda forgot to post this after my speech)

s3

But I think I did pretty good with my speech. At first, I was having the hardest time coming up with a topic. After putting much thought into it, I decided to relook at my previous assessment and I came across my S1 assessment. That got me thinking, now that I did a presentation about the B-Cycles in San Antonio, I should do one for San Francisco to see how they differ if they do. Since I delivered my S1 presentation a good while ago, I decided that it would be helpful to refresh the class on what the B-Cycle was and good thing I did because not everyone remembered what the B-Cycle exactly was. One difficulty that I did run into was interviewing students and San Francisco residents. Some of the students that I began interviewing were in a rush so I had to move on to the next. But interviewing San Francisco residents were even harder because I had to find the ones that weren’t busy riding their bikes or running and willing to talk to a stranger. Eventually, throughout Golden Gate Park I found 15 residents that were able to be interviewed.

This to me is my best presentation yet because I did not feel nervous at all  instead I felt really confident in myself and in the amount of knowledge I knew about the topic since I had already done a presentation on B-Cycles before. I practiced my speech multiple times, by myself, with video recordings and also using my roommates as the audience. I didn’t refer to my notecards often which is great because I don’t want to have the need to look at them and read them but serve only as refreshers as in “What is next?” And because I did not rely heavily on my notecards I was able to instead maintained eye contact with the audience. I decided to get the audience involved by urging them to request a site near or on USF in order to us to have easy access to bicycles. But I feel that throughout my entire presentation I am not loud enough or if I am, it is barely enough.

The ways that I can improve are to rehearse my presentation in a setting where I need to speak up in order to be heard. Like Professor Hunt said about the man that spent his time yelling against the waves of the ocean in order to improve his speaking abilities like pronunciation and volume of his speeches. Although this sounds like a fun idea, I do not think I will do that instead I’ll practice with filming the video recordings from a distance and practicing my speeches with my roommates from a distance to see if they can hear me. One thing that I did do that I said would help me improve on the previous reflections were that I paid a visit to the Speech center and that really was a big help because Gabby helped me with my introduction and the presentation of my slideshow.

I like how Ettore’s came up with a hashtag because people often create a hashtag to get it well known in order to create change. I know Abby used that hashtag in a tweet right away.  Ettore’s presentation was great overall, he established credibility of himself and kept the audience engaged which is a very important aspect. Dina’s presentation really captured the used of Youtube voice. I managed to get a look at the audience while her video was playing and everyone seemed really interested, giving all of their undivided attention to it. I always find her topics interesting because they show us a different perspective which is in Jordan and I’ve never been so it interesting to find out more about Jordan through her presentations.
